Oooh that's a belter of a subject, nice one. Russian/Soviet-era history is really interesting. Also a complete counterpoint to what I study - American propaganda.

Also have a presentation the same day so realistically have to hand in diss by wednesday to have time to prepare for that, doing it on videogames with a historical setting though so I feel fairly confident in my ability to bullshit my way through it come up with a good presentation off the back of that.

Is it undergrad? What's your dissertation title? Out of interest.

Yeah, undergrad History, title is
"Responding to the "tiny revolutions": Soviet official humour and its interaction with popular humour under Lenin and Stalin"
Basically looking at Soviet-era jokes and why people told them (given the threat of arrest if you got caught taking the piss out of the regime) and how the government responded with its own satire to redirect criticism away from the political centre towards "acceptable" targets like bureaucrats/corrupt officials

(yes I have basically spent a year looking at Russian jokes and cartoons this is real historical scholarship I promise)

Weird thing I found out recently was that Stalin’s daughter lived in Bristol back in the 90s.

Like a true socialist hero she slummed it in Clifton with the working classes. ;)

Dissertation all done hooray
Basically spent from midday yesterday till 10 this morning writing it, came home and slept for an hour, then spent all afternoon proofreading, sorting footnotes and slotting in the cartoons I'd used as examples, didn't get it done before print services closed though so still need to go in and get it bound tomorrow morning then go straight off to do my presentation for another module, which I'm still preparing now.
Running off like three hours sleep at the minute so a wee bit knackered, can't wait to come home and just go straight to bed tomorrow afternoon lol

With all the nice weather we have had recently I thought it would be nice to go to the seaside today, I did and it was absolutely freezing and incredibly windy, foolishly I went in t-shirt and shorts and apart from three wind kite surfers in the sea we were the only people on the beach,

I walked to get us some fish and chips and on the I passed who I assume to be a homeless person sat on the floor with a sleeping bag, people were just walking past like he wasn’t there but it made me feel very awkward and pretending to look at my phone made me feel rather guilty, anyway I decided to buy him some fish and chips as well and gave them him on my way back to the car, he was thankful and I felt quite good I had done it, after we had them we wanted a drink and something sweet so I walked back to where the fish and chip was to buy some drinks etc, I noticed he had gone but on the floor was the fish and chips I gave him barely any eaten but scattered all over the floor!

I went in the sea and it’s made my legs hurt, the wind has hurt my ears, the sand in the wind hurt my arms and went in my eyes, my trainers are ruined, the doughnuts made me feel sick, and to top it all off every single flag pole that they had was completely flag less, so overall not a great day!

That homeless guy may have been full from just a few chips, especially if he's been homeless for a good long while. There's loads of homeless in Birmingham town centre, you can't go down one street without seeing at least one of them.

Maybe everyone and the council put their flags away just in case the flag police came knocking on their door to tell them the union flag was the wrong way around.

That photo looks like the last picture found on a disposable camera in a pile of clothes after someone walked in to the sea

It’s something that I’m not used to seeing with me not living in a city or even a town but surely he could go to the local council and get help

I should have taken some flags with me and attached them to the poles myself........ maybe next time I will :slol:

Yes that’s seems the case, I have got to wait in for a parcel to be collected (that should have been collected on Tuesday) and then I will go to Sherwood and Rufford for a walk and hopefully have a better day than I did yesterday

We were meant to have a new member of staff start at work today, instead I got a call at 5 past 2 saying "Ash, any chance you can come into work today? The new member of staff hasn't shown up for her shift." So yeah, fun times.

At least I work close to Spoons, so I went and had a pint or two after work.

Finished second in a pretty big cards tournament today, running a deck I created myself (ie no outside influence) - pretty pleased with that :D

It’s my partners 30th birthday today so we are having a BBQ and I’m decorating the house with flags and bunting, obviously it’s all for him and nothing to do with the Royal wedding ;) I also got him the perfect gift
