The dentist appointment I just had wasn't just a follow up on a root canal. It was preparation for a crown. A crown that will cost me a further £200.

Because strawberry float me, apparently.

My crown cost me £500 so you're doing alright (literally front tooth so I went for the indistinguishable all white option)

Ok old man, give us some of your thoughts and memories. Being the longest member of the old forum you should have something interesting.

I remember the only two people that joined before I did never once posted anything and that irritated me to no end.

other than that I just remember the good times running the Trial of The.. games, they were good times.

Yeah, they gave me that option too, but I wasn't about to pay that much for a premolar. Barely anyone will notice it anyway, and far fewer who actually care.

Trial of The Only Active Member of the Board ;)

This is just reminding me of everything I missed out during my younger years on the board.

Makes sense. Good news is that a crown should last 10 years, so the monthly cost in that respect isn't awful

I’m 99% sure he was never on the mod team during my reign of terror. If he was, he was there before me and stepped down shortly after. The only time he was modded was the early days of the boards after Rex and friends went off to run their own forum, and the remaining staff scrambled to find cover at short notice.

I remember that, it was pretty chaotic.

To be honest, i don't think the admins were in any way prepared to run a forum of that size when ONM launched, especially given that their main job was to produce the magazine. Future should really have hired some dedicated web people to oversee the whole thing, as the lack of admin presence paired with a number of iffy mod choices (when new mods were announced, i would often think to myself 'how the flying strawberry float did that idiot get chosen?') meant that more often than not, the inmates were basically running the asylum.

We all know you took D.J's spot as the next moderator at the time.

The mod selections were usually a series of compromises. I’d be willing to accept someone I didn’t like or didn’t know if it meant I was getting someone I trusted in return.

Ultimately though the choices were up to a bunch of teenagers. Less inmates running the asylum and more representative of what the board was. While there were some older members (like yourself) the userbase was more or less my age for the duration of the site’s existence. For me, that was a large part of the appeal. If it was a bunch of boring people who didn’t understand memes and had no sense of humour running the show, I would have gone elsewhere, regardless of whether I was a user or a mod.

I still have no idea how moderators are chosen. Is there a test? Do I have to write an essay?
Or is it a secret cabal that only the elite can join otherwise the secret will leak out?

After you kill an innocent/non-quest related character you'll get visited the next time you sleep with the offer to join

I'm pretty sure the decision making process resembles a meeting of the stonecutters, with Jerome Valeska as chairman. ;)
