PostHeadset/Camera help - needed for therapy!
by Zilnad » Fri Jan 12, 2024 11:25 am

Hey guys,

Going to start private therapy sessions from next Friday but it's going to be on Zoom so I need to get myself a good camera and headset so that I'm comfortable and have tech that I can rely on and not worry about.

Will look online as well but I'm know you guys know your gooseberry fool so I was hoping for some recommendations from you guys as I'd really like to get something ordered, set up and tested out as soon as I can!

Thank you!

For my therapy, I just have a zoom call from a laptop - no headset required (built in mic and cam) which I think is a good thing. Understand that you might be doing yours from a desktop in which case most of the logitech ones are pretty good such as the C920s PRO

only downside is that if you are not speaking directly into it the audio might not be as good? But shouldn't be an issue if you are sitting in front of it.

Good luck with your therapy! It can often feel like a lonely journey so feel free to vent anytime.

That's what I use for streaming (and also my online therapy sessions) ! It's fine and works well and theoretically has a mic built into it. I'd just plug in normal headphones into your PC jack and it should all be fine.

I use my Blue yeti Pro as the mic for therapy but I reckon that's a bit overkill ;)

I guess it all depends on what your budget is.

You can spend hundreds of pounds on fancy webcams, but I doubt you'd actually need anything fancy.

At work I just use the laptop's built in webcam and the cheap and nasty headset that work gave me. It all works fine.

I imagine the stress of making something cheap work would not be conducive to good therapy sessions but as Moggy says you don't need a full Twitch streaming setup. Buy entry level from a reputable brand that you know will work out of the box (i.e. Logitech or Microsoft and not a Chinese off-brand one). There's a Creative 1080p one for £25 right now on Amazon.

Best of luck with the therapy. From my experience with online therapy I'd say it's more important to make sure your audio setup is comfortable and gives you the level privacy you desire. Make sure you have a decent headset or pair of buds basically.

Cheers, just ordered that one as it has 10% off as well. Hopefully the inbuilt mic will be decent enough. Good find!

No webcam advice but just wanted to say good luck with the therapy and I hope it goes well!
