Didn't see a topic for this so thought I'd make one.

When they first started showing this trailer I knew it was Ninja Theory, but only because I was convinced that character was Kai from Heavenly Sword. I've not done any reasearch into it but does anyone else think it's the same character? It could be them simply using the same actress to motion capture making the characters look the same which also happened with Enslaved, but then this character also has face paint over her eyes. So is it confirmed heavenly sword sequel featuring Kai as lead character or something totally different?

It's not a Sony game, so no, it's nothing to do with heavenly Sword.

It's a self published game.

Nothing about it being a sequel in PS EU blog  http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2014/08/ ... ja-theory/

But you Ninja Theory fans may want to head over to the official game site, because...

We have announced the game unusually early. This is a deliberate move: we want to share our development journey with you, the fans; to develop Hellblade right in front of your eyes so you can see just how we go about making games.

At the heart of this is Hellblade.com, where you can find the latest from development. Throughout the project we’ll be sharing developer diaries, concept art, design documents, tutorials and work-in-progress of the game being put together. If you hop over to Hellblade.com now you’ll see some concept art from Hellblade as well as an introduction video to the project. You’ll also see a lot more information about “Independent AAA”, and in the spirit of openness, we’ve posted a lot of documentation on a couple of Ninja Theory games that were planned, but never made it into production.

Heavenly - Hell, Sword - Blade. Character models look the same, same face paint over eyes, 3 individual streaks heading downwards from the eyes like tears, paint on the lower lip... Hmm.

AAA indie must mean recycle design ideas.

Did a little more research, Kai also wore the same colour paint (as over her eyes) on her neck which pointed downwards where it met at her chest.

New character also has this, although darker to match the darker paint over her eyes.

Also, the plaits of hair over her shoulder...identical

It's the same character, will be interesting to see her back story if this really isn't related.

For a second I read this as a Ninja Blade sequel.
I'm disappointed now

Ninja Theory games have steadily been getting better and DmC was excellent, so it's good to see they're still managing to make big games (IIRC they said they were going to focus on mobile) as I don't think any of their games have been huge financial successes.

That's a pretty awful gameplay demonstration. Doesn't explain anything. Gameplay looks awfully similar to Infinity Blade.

I agree, and like yourself have been steadily warming to Ninja Theory's output. I thought Enslaved was pretty monotonous and unexciting but had (to date) some of the best motion capture and focussed story/dialogue in the business. Its art design too was top notch.

And i loved DmC; actually enjoying the new Dante, the satisfying combat and once again the straightforward and naturalistic dialogue and acting.

So i have hope for this, but that demo was terrible. Both the weird editing of the video cuts, and the hyper-unexciting combat. The graphic design (surely Ninja Theory's thing) was just muddy and muddled and underwhelming.

Will still keep an eye on it, but hope it improves a lot.
