Is there any new gameplay in that video? That hack and slash display from last time looks worse and worse.

Damn - that's a big change! Before Senua looked the prototypical action babe, now she seems far more ordinary, like a regular girl you might see on the high street. I'm guessing it's because Ninja Theory wanted an actress first. The funny thing is the actress, Melina Juergens, is naturally very striking.

She looks far more realistic now, before she just looked like typical GCI.

Graphics and performance capture look STUNNING at the very least. Really need to see more of the game, though.

I recommened watching their other development diaries, they're really interesting. For such a small team, this game looks hugely impressive, especially considering the tech in it.

Here is the youtube playlist for all of them so far.

The game is launching on 8 August and it's up for pre-order in the PlayStation Store at £24.99. That's tempting.

Interesting commentary... a "triple-A" game "half the size, but half the cost". I love the idea of a high-quality game at a lower price - and it certainly looks like Ninja Theory believe in their product - but I wonder how lengthy the game is? Of course, I'd rather have three hours of great action than twenty hours of dull plodding.

I hope this works out for Ninja Theory; looking at their development updates on YouTube, their heart is in the right place.

Nothing wrong with different business models, but I get the concern this cheaper pricing is revealed so close to release. Reminds me of Recore on Xbox One however Ninja Theory are calling it a triple-A game so it buy be good.

What, even Kung Fu Chaos which is often cited as one of the most racist games ever made?

Not technically Ninja Theory.

I'll give you that since they went by a different name then, I was just being facetious anyway. I've played all their games bar that and they've been great.

Eurogamer gave this an essential rating, despite the audaciously political choice to make a woman the combative protagonist in a work of fiction.

If you die too many time the game deletes your save file. This isn't some special mode, this is the actual normal game. Personally I doubt it's that much of a concern and you'd have to be pretty bad at it to fail for this to happen. But I can also understand how having this feature seems kind of stupid. I'm going to wait anyway before buying because at the moment the pc version has some resolution bug/issues and I really cba to deal with that and performance issues.

I will be pretty bad at this and I will lose my game save.

I just played the first hour on PS4 Pro.

Game. Is. Beautiful. Visually, these guys have hit one out of the park. Atmospherically, ditto. The world Senua enters is menacing, malevolent, eerie and disconcerting, but by god it's well-realised. The voices in her head are discombobulating, confusing, contradictory and sometimes insulting. Light, shadow, they all work to create something special.

Senua herself is sympathetic. I like her. She doesn't seem all-powerful - quite the opposite: she's deeply flawed and far from invincible. I love her vulnerability, her insecurity, her abject fear. A hero I can finally get behind.

Her first death is so well done - to illustrate a point. The camera lingers as she suffers and even gets close enough to see her life itself flicker out as her pupils dilate at the moment of death. In the first hour I had one combat encounter (it was mostly introduction, exploration and one or two puzzles up to that point) and Senua 'died'. Now I want to see more.

The game has an excellent camera mode, too. Fully-featured, you can move about up/down/back/front and zoom, roll, focus and even apply filters, FX and framing - and this is the kind of game you are going to want to be taking screenshots of.

I played a bit of this last night

It's one of those games that gets your heart racing with Nothing but Atmosphere, like Firewatch does. Great so far.

As for the perma death thing, if it bothers someone they could just put the game on easy, it's no big deal.
