There were a lot of problems with the first Dead Island game, awful characterisation, bugs and some tedious sections but at it's heart I always thought that they were fun games. Anyway after Dying Light Techland are going to release Hellraid. A fantasy themed action game in the same vein as Hexen, Heretic, Witchhaven, Dark Messiah, Diablo and even the Elder Scrolls games.
It'll feature single player campaign, 4 player co-op, several game modes, character customisation, weapon crafting, adaptive A.I. difficulty, randomly generated dungeons and it'll also use their new Chrome Engine 6, so it'll look damn good. I'm really looking forward to this.
Techland are doing an early Steam release of Hellraid this year with a 2015 release for Xbox One, PS4 & PC.

It's another horde game, isn't it? I must say Techland are busy bees; how do they find the time to work on so many games concurrently? Hellraid looks interesting, but I'm wary - especially as its going onto Early Access via Steam. Looks a bit 'Painkiller' to me (not necessarily a bad thing, mind).

Let's get Dying Light out of the way - the game from Techland that I am really looking forward to - and then see what this game is all about. Cautiously intrigued, though.

You should be wary because it's Techland. Ignore all the media for it and wait for user reviews.

First person melee has always been a bit hit and miss... often quite literally if you are the one playing. It's the reason I always use bows in TES games.

Agreed! I usually always play an archer/thief/ranger in the The Elder Scrolls games because of the poor melee combat.
If Techland can do something as cool as what Arcane did with Dark Messiah of Might & Magic or Dishonered then this could be cool.
So far though this is pressing all the right buttons for me and I'll remain optimistic, but knowing Techlands past games I'll wait for player impressions in August, through that Steam early access. Lets hope it's of the same high quality as Call of Juarez: Gunslinger and not something as banal as Call of Juarez: The Cartel or Dead Island: Riptide.

Loved Dead Island (and the "expansion" pack ala Riptide) so quite looking forward to this one :)

Their games are always dogged by bugs at launch. Chrome engine is woeful. They make big promises and always under deliver.

I think the Juarez games have been the only ones they've put out that have been solid technically and in gameplay.

Don't their games generally review quite poorly?

Looking at Metacritic, Techland games seem to mostly score between average and good.

I've only played DI: Riptide and CoJ: Gunslinger. The first was playable but nothing special. Gunslinger on the other hand was very good.

Dead island was great.

Riptide not so much.

Fabian Delph is a banana split.

Did they do a version which had both on one disc? Either way, I played the original and thought it was OK.

Dead island?

Don't think so.

The first one was great. The first "area" the beach they got the atmosphere spot on, graphics were nice too. And the manual melee fighting was great. Such a shame the latter locations weren't as good. I enjoyed it a lot though. But I'd generally like anything with zombies in it.

I'm buying this game as it's pretty much D&D which is awesome.

Yet again Mages will rule all  .

Looks nice, and the combat seems quite heavy, with attacks having a decent weight behind them. I like the freeform class system too, so will probably bite when this hits early access.
