Picked this up for something to play on quite night shifts when it's a bit too late for anything that requires quick reactions. I'm not entirely sure if I like it or I'm playing it tight but I've sunk about 4-5 hours in already. It's still a bit daunting at the moment and I've not managed to find a groove but it seems like something I could get into.

Gained access to the quarry. So much minerals. Hopefully my steel pick axe will serve me well.

In Winter 1 now. Very bleak. Will have to make ends meet selling my world famous blueberry jam.

Built a coop. Have two chicks. Hope they survive the cold winter.

Is there no farming at all in Winter?

I'm still in Spring 1 at this point, just did the flower dance.

Couldn't get anyone to dance with me even though I'd been showering those ungrateful bastards with gifts since practically day 1!

The one thing I've learnt after my first year in Stardew Valley is that the residents are the most superficial, fake bitches I've ever met.

I'm still holding out hope that I can win Haley over, though she seems like a tough nut to crack!

Is there a UI indicator to let you know how much people like the stuff you give them as gifts or do you just gauge it on the response they give you? I had a fairly major gift mishap earlier in the spring - I thought I had been quite smart by remembering it was Shane's birthday and so spotting him in town I rushed over to give him a present, however in my haste I selected the wrong item and ended up handing over a stone... he wasn't exactly impressed! :fp:

You can see each persons heart rating in the menu but that is it.

Is it necessary to catch fish in this? The fishing mini game is abysmal.

Only if you want to fully restore the community centre. Yes, I agree, it's the worst part of the game!

Thank God for that.

Is there anyway of knowing what gifts people like or is it trial and error?

Trial and error but plenty of lists online eg stardew-wiki.

I quite enjoy the fishing mini game, it's nice to have something that uses a bit of dynamic input in what is otherwise quite a gentle game.

Started this last night after finishing Steamworld Dig 2. The fear of doing stuff wrong is huge.

I think I was most worried about not eating, probably because the gameplay loop was reminding me of Don't Starve. I'm assuming I won't starve...

Also, on my second day ended up having to go to bed at 9.30am because I was chopping trees :slol:

I think I'm going to play through to winter as an experiment, and then start again and do it properly.

You can make a handy snack out of pine cones, maple seeds and acorns. Comes in handy when chopping trees.

What farm are people playing this with?

I didn't really pay attention to the descriptions at the start and went with the Forest Farm. It's doing well for me so far but I'm concerned I may miss the lack of farming space as time goes on and I try to expand my operations!
