I've been dipping into these vids and the game seems pretty cool; it kinda has an Animal Crossing / Harvest Moon vibe to it.

It's interesting to see that, once it gets dark, you can barely see where you're going!

Post-Launch Progress Update: Version 1.1 and more!

May 1, 2016

Hello everyone!

First, I’d like to thank you all so much for playing Stardew Valley. The game has been more successful than I ever imagined, and I’m very grateful to everyone for granting me this amazing opportunity. I can’t say it enough– the community that’s formed around this game is incredible… full of kind, talented people who have given Stardew Valley a life of it’s own. It’s really cool. heart

The last couple of months have been pretty wild for me. I released seven patches… with bug fixes, adjustments, and some new content here and there. In addition, I’ve been keeping up with interviews, business stuff, social media platforms, and helping people who are having issues with the game. In short, I’ve been extremely busy.

Toward the end of April the launch buzz had cooled off enough that I could afford to take a short break. It’s been nice… I’ve actually played some other games for the first time in a long while, which was fun (Final Fantasy IX, Factorio, Age Of Empires II) . I feel refreshed, and I’m ready to get back to work!

First, here is a list of what’s planned for the future of Stardew Valley:

Version 1.1 — A substantial content update
Co-op Multiplayer
Localizing for non-english regions
Mac/Linux Ports
Console Ports
Merchandise

Now, there’s obviously a huge amount of work involved to achieve all this… and I am just one person. I know in the past I’ve been very adamant about doing everything myself… and I still am, when it comes to game design and content. However, I’ve decided to seek outside help for some of the more technical things listed above. More specifically, I’ve accepted an offer from Chucklefish in which they will handle the porting, localization, and the technical side of multiplayer. This will allow me to focus on creating new game content for version 1.1, which I will continue to do entirely on my own.

This should result in faster overall development and reduced workload for me, while preserving my artistic control over Stardew Valley. I think it will be beneficial for everyone.

There’s no official timetable for any of this yet… Mainly I just want to let you all know that multiplayer, porting and localization are actively being worked on.

In the meantime, I’d like to give a little rundown of some things I’m planning for version 1.1:

More late-game content
New farm buildings
New crops
New artisan goods
New advanced farming/producing mechanics
Shane and Emily will be marriage candidates. They will also have more events and dialogue as a result.
More marriage content for all spouses
More events for the non-marriage NPC’s
Improvements/Additions to mining and combat
Ability to move buildings and other convenience features
More bug fixes
More secrets
More small, fun touches to the world
(note: anything in this list is subject to change)

Well, that’s all for now. Again, thanks for all your support and thanks for reading!

Hi everyone!

In one of my previous posts, I mentioned that console ports were in the works, but I couldn’t give you any more details at the time.

So today, I’m pleased to officially announce that Stardew Valley is coming to the Xbox One, Playstation 4 and Wii U!

With the help of Chucklefish and Sickhead Games, I’m expecting to have these versions ready in time for the winter holidays!

It’s very important to me that playing Stardew Valley with console controllers is intuitive and effortless. I’ll be the first to admit that the current, rudimentary controller support in the PC version is far from ideal, and it will need to be adjusted prior to the launch.

I’m also excited about the possibility of utilizing special console features like the Wii U’s second screen!

The Mac and Linux version of the game are still in the works, and should be ready very soon! Still working on the multiplayer and version 1.1 updates, too, and will keep you updated. Thanks for all of your patience and support!

I will be keeping my eye on this, although I doubt I'll spend any money on it as it'll be on PS+ within a year hopefully.

I have a real problem with Harvest Moon games (and by extension this). I really, really like the idea of them and feel that it would be something I'd like to play. Then I buy one and discover I don't actually like them. Then I do the same thing over and over again (I actually bought the GC game 3 times!). I think I have a problem.

No, I know exactly what you mean. Somewhere in the concept there's a great game to be made - but I haven't played it yet...

I think I'm the same. I've got the PC version and I initially played it for a few days, then left it for a couple of weeks, then a couple of months, now it's sat collecting dust on my desktop.

Having said that, the console version still appeals to me greatly, even though I know I'll probably lose interest after an initial surge.

I was enjoying my day-to-day play through of this, with the videos going up on YouTube each day, bit stopped playing when I lost my data when switching from laptop to PC and I don't think GoG does auto cloud saves or cloud saves at all.

Ha! We need to start a therapy group, feel the exact same way. It's more with Animal Crossing for me, like the idea but christ is it boring.

I think there must be some primal part of ours brains that want to be mindless drones doing chores and collecting fossils/bugs/gems/carrots, but the more dominant creative part our brain (that knobhead) fights against that and demands decent story, variation and purpose.

Bit of a bump but any love for this? I picked it up for 11 quid on PSN on a whim last week. Haven't touched Destiny since, it's lovely. The perfect game for relaxing.

Reading the posts from last November (not sure why I've not seen them before) and I feel the same about "Harvest Moon games". I've only played one on GBC and the first GC one - and with the latter I felt like I SHOULD have loved it - but I just didn't enjoy playing them. (Adored Animal Crossing though.) And yet, I see pics / footage of this, and can't help thinking... that it looks great! :slol:

I'm playing this on Switch. Great game for the bus commute. Just ending my first autumn. Looking forward to upgrading my watering can in winter, as the daily crop watering is getting monotonous.

One week away from receiving Mario O, a game I am singularly unexcited by the prospect of for some reason, and I'm seriously thinking of downloading Stardew Valley to play instead.

I felt a bit like that about the new Mario too, still, but the excitement is just now starting to creep up on me.

I'm pretty unsure about Stardew Valley. I love Animal Crossing but, for me, this appears to double down-on the "work" side and lighten up on the attractive characterisation side. Tbh I am gonna return to AC instead of trying out Stardew.

...then again, I've not actually played it - but Rog has put over 25 hours into the Switch version so it'd be cool to hear his thoughts!

It definitely does focus more on the actual working mechanisms of a subsistence farm, so you're spending a huge amount of daylight chopping down trees, pulling up stumps, removing stones, hoeing/planting/watering/harvesting/repeat, but it has other things to do as well when you venture into town. It's far more like Harvest Moon than Animal Crossing, plus there's no evil Tom Nook enslaving you into his shady mortgage deals!

*disclaimer* I haven't played this for yonks so the above might all be out of date.

I too have recently downloaded this onto my Switch. I have just reached Summer. I have raised what feels like a decent sum of cash, however I lack the raw materials - wood, mainly - to be able to spend it in a manner I would like.

Time to go tree felling.
