PostHelp with 2DS sd card
by Wiimote » Thu Feb 08, 2018 11:27 am

My nephew who is 4 got a 2DS for Christmas & now gets this message when trying to play MK7 which is stored on the sd card “write protection is enabled on the sd card. The software on the sd card cannot be displayed.”
When booting up the camera this message appears “cannot write to the sd card. Please turn off the power & move the write-protection Switch on the sd card to the off position”
Done this & he still can’t play the game. Is there a way to fix this? He may have taken the sd card out with the console on but not sure.

It may be corrupted.. You can't write to an SD card sometimes in this case.

There are ways to repair it. But have you tried putting in computer and seeing it you can backup any files? You can keep saves this way (hopefully) and redownload software from the eShop after formatting the card. It's unlikely the card itself is physically damaged, just probably the data.

EDIT: Missed you saying you'd done this, sorry!

Hopefully this should solve it: http://en-americas-support.nintendo.com ... an-sd-card

- The down position will enable write-protection, locking the card.
- The up position will unlock the card, enabling you to save and erase data on the card.

Looks like he tried that. But I have also had his on my macbook where the card itself is either dodgy, the switch has broken inside and doesn't do anything, or there is a problem with one of the read pins in the reader end. In which case not much hope of fixing that. I can hardly ever write to cards in that machine. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

If you can get a PC to read it and have a spare SD card of similar size it might be worth trying to copy everything to the PC and then to the other card and trying that.... Also try copying a picture of something from your pc to the card and see if it says it cant because its write protected etc as that would help work out if it was the DS or the card if that makes sense...

Yeah the "can't write" from the DS system might be a false flag because system can't recognise why else it can't write data. But that's not necessarily the case.

Eg can't write media.. Forgot to put the disk in. Computers are stupid. Remember that. It can only recognise a set number of conditions it's programmed to understand and attempts to "catch" other conditions with a best match or 'if all of this gooseberry fool isn't the problem assume this'.

My brother has said his laptop says there is a problem with the card & my brother says the card is corrupt as I don't think his laptop could fix it.

So all he needs to do now is get a new card & redownload the games again for free?
