NBC is bringing back its conquering “Heroes.”

An iconic series that still commands a rabid fan base, “Heroes” will return to the network in 2015 as an event miniseries with original creator and executive producer Tim Kring at the helm, it was announced today by NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke.

NBC has ordered 13 episodes for a new stand-alone story arc entitled “Heroes Reborn,” with all details of storylines and characters being kept under wraps.

“The enormous impact ‘Heroes’ had on the television landscape when it first launched in 2006 was eye-opening,” said NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke. “Shows with that kind of resonance don’t come around often and we thought it was time for another installment. We’re thrilled that visionary creator Tim Kring was as excited about jumping back into this show as we were and we look forward to all the new textures and layers Tim plans to add to his original concept. Until we get closer to air in 2015, the show will be appropriately shrouded in secrecy, but we won’t rule out the possibility of some of the show’s original cast members popping back in.”

The original series chronicled the life-changing stories of a series of unrelated ordinary people who discovered they had superhuman abilities. As the saga unfolded, they learned they were part of a grand plan that brought them together to change the world.

With the return of “Heroes Reborn,” NBC will launch a digital series prior to the 2015 premiere that will introduce the characters and new storylines. This leveraging of social media is a way for fans to re-engage with what was one for the true pioneers in multiplatform storytelling.

The iconic sci-fi series, which ran on NBC from 2006-10 and was an immediate hit, ranked as television’s #1 new drama with an average audience of 14.5 million viewers during its initial season. The show was Golden Globe-nominated in its first year of eligibility for best drama series; it won the BAFTA Award for best international series, the AFI Award, the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films Saturn Award, two People’s Choice Awards and the Television Critics Association Award for Program of the Year.

“Heroes” remains one of the best-selling TV series on DVD of all time with more than 10 million units sold.

I'll admit that Heroes went downhill after Season 1 but I'm so excited for this :D

Hopefully the writing will not fall to pieces, and if there's a writers' strike, that they'll just put the strawberry floating thing on hold until it's all over.

Never thought it would come back...

Hopefully it will be more focused like the first season and not turn into one giant clusterfuck again.

Season 1 was amazing and then they literally didn't get a thing right in the seasons after that :fp:

They really should have refreshed the majority of the cast each year with maybe a few occasional cameos.
Keep people dead that were killed off.
Stop reusing the same story lines for the same characters

Wasn't this going to be an Xbox show?

The original lost me when Peter left the girl he loved in some alternate future and the character never got mentioned again, I think that was Season 2.

"An audience member asked about Caitlin, Peter Petrelli's love interest from Season 2, who was last seen left behind in a plague-stricken future – a future that thanks to the re-shot end of "Generations," doesn't exist. Kring revealed that if the strike hadn't cut Season 2 short, the plan was, "to get to [Caitlin] around episode 14 or 15, during 'Exodus'. She was a casualty of that storyline never being told." After the long hiatus during which Heroes was off the air, Kring said, "We realized that going back to [Caitlin] nine and a half months later would have been insanity." He felt that while there would "be some people asking about it, for most people it would have been a hard left [in the story]." When the fan asked if Peter would ever acknowledge Caitlin or express any grief over what seems to be her dire fate, Kring replied, "No, we passed it. We leapfrogged it." He added that when the idea of returning to Caitlin was brought up, they asked, "Really? Are we going to risk that? We have enough stuff to [deal with]."

So yeah, basically that's the reason Heroes is gooseberry fool.

The thing that ruined it for me was that some of the abilities certain characters had were far too unrealistic, even for a 'superhero' show.

Clare's healing ability was ridiculous when broken bones somehow managed to reposition themselves in the exact place/angle they needed to be, by the end of season 1 she should have been completely deformed by all the constant healing.

There should be an ever-present "every power has a price, they are both a gift and a curse" rule in the show. So the main characters have these super powers, and the story more or less forces them into situations in which they should use them (but maybe they don't always do so?), but to do so takes an immediate and visible toll (fire casting leads to severe burns injuries etc) and will see several characters die/turn insane/become evil/go into hiding etc as the show progresses, which should allow for some interesting story arcs and whatnot.

I don't agree with either of those ideas. What you guys are describing is a completely different show.

The powers not having physical drawbacks isn't any more unrealistic than them existing in the first place.

I read this a few hours ago now and I'm still in shock. Nobody asked for more Heroes.

It is more interesting, however, than characters having super-powers and just being afraid to use them openly. Add consequences to the uses of those powers to their users and suddenly self-preservation takes hold, injuries occur, some characters might go into hiding, some might refuse to save that cheerleader, others might team up if their abilities compliment one another or even help mitigate the worse consequences of power usage etc, others might become pawns for the baddies if their abilities are found to heighten the adverse effects of the other etc.

Like I said that's just something different. I don't think necessarily more interesting, just something that isn't what this is.

YAY!!

The way it ended was a great opener to what I think would have been a back on form series!

Alphas did this. It was interesting because although not physical drawbacks the powers often gave them emotional or social drawbacks.

The writer's strike (and subsequent shortening of season two) was the real problem. It messed up the planned storyline and they were never able to get back on track.

I wonder if the new series will take place after what happens at the end of season four
when Claire goes public about the abilities.

It was a good concept and the first season was excellent. If they want to have another crack at it that's fine with me, if it works then ace! If it doesn't then it's hardly going to tarnish the show's legacy
