I don't exactly know what that refers to but I can't play Rhythm games on the telly anymore (as opposed to say the Switch handheld) due to my extreme sensitivity to audio-visual lag and sync issues :(

If it's not Right On it's just Very Off.

I'm like that Whiplash teacher but the only suffering student is my own enjoyment.

It has extensive options to alter were the beat hits. You can literally change the timing with a handy slider that shows if there is latency and at any time if you hit the back button you get a visual representation at bottom of screen of the beat. If you can’t get that right it’s not a major hindrance to the game, you just deal more damage if you hit enemies in synch with the music and you traverse a little bit faster.

Yeah, I don’t think that slider actually adjusts the timing. It just tells you if there’s going to be a problem.

I think its because you naturally press the button to the beat during calibration, not the visual line up of an icon. Now I think about it, maybe I should have done that part with the audio down.

Yeah, it was worse on that game. This one seems more forgiving.

Ah, that's good to hear. I will certainly give it a try, I like almost any rhythm based games.

I think my issue is that TVs/soundsystems have the option of audio delay in the presumption that audio processes quicker than video. But on the last two 4Ks I've owned there's been a baked-in audio delay (presumably to compensate for audio being quicker) that actually just made everything Not Quite Right - especially for tightly choreographed things like dance videos or anime intros or whatever.

If you bypass this with your (e.g.) PS5 routing to the sound system first/in parallel then it's fine. But for stuff originating on the TV (like streaming apps) or for people like me who have an old Bose sound system that doesn't take HDMI (so I have to do HDMI of consoles Into TV then digital OUT to sound system) then the audio lag is annoying.

But anyway! Sounds like there's enough customisability get to get something decently in sync.

Main solution I find is to try and ignore and worry less - so once I've done my calibration I'll just try and commit to rid myself of the ongoing nag about the potential to tweak further.

Anyway anyway - I'd have to play on Gamepass PC show so I guess this is all fine?!

This game is so good. And I'm strawberry floating terrible at timing, never manage more than 50%. I think its because I'm pressing to attack instead of as I attack. But who cares, I still got A and B grades across the mission.

I’m looking forward to getting back into it tonight, some crazy praise going around. Jeff Grubb thinks it’s the best looking game he’d ever seen! :fp:

There was a point in the second track where you walk into a room and the main character says something about there being a lot going on. At that point, I can well agree with Jeff. It's phenomenal how much detail is crammed in to some of the locations.

Haha, Grubb gonna Grubb. But it does look stunning. Amazing that they kept it under wraps until the last minute.

This seems good, but it’s unplayable with my soundbar, even with the bypass and everything enabled. Playing using the sound bar I’m getting a 50% rating for timing, but as soon as I switch to TV speakers I’m up to 80%. Guess I will see how I fair with my Xbox wireless headphones.

I do like how they use licensed music sparingly. When the first real boss battle started I was happily surprised.

This game.

I’m getting better and better as I play, some of the visuals are insane. I can see Phil asking if they would like to make a bigger sequel.

This game is cool and the visuals superb, but I just can't get the hang of the timing. :(

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Me neither but the scoring system seems balanced enough on normal that I'm still getting relatively decent grades. The bit I'm not enjoying are the QTEs, I'm on track 4 and they're starting to get onerous.

If you are struggling with the timing and using a sound bar, try a headset or the TV speakers. It's a night and day difference for me, despite having bypass etc enabled and not noticing any audio lag when in console home menus etc.

The MS wireless headset is close to perfect and certainly "good enough", but, ironically, nothing has beaten the crappy, tinny LG TV speakers. Its somewhat soured the game for me tbh, as it just introduces friction to the whole experience.

The MS Wireless headset works perfect for me... starting to get S ranks...
