I can't really see the point of nintendo coming out with a wii HD as none of current games are going to be able to render at the resolution and i don't think the wii has the power to render games at that res anyway look at how many ps3 and 360 games are rending at lower resolutions than 720p. They would be better of waiting until there next console comes out as that will be in HD unless they are going to build it with 10 year old parts.

What about our WiiWare/VC purchases? Is there any way to transfer them from one Wii to another? I don't think I'd be willing to upgrade (if this were to happen, which I doubt) if I couldn't move my downloaded games over.

To carry out the installation and select the correct disply resolution. It defaults to SCART as every TV made over the past 20 years has it.

No no no no no no.

Releasing an HD Wii would confuse the mass market too much and fracture the consumer base.

If Nintendo were to 'upgrade' the Wii id expect a better Online service, A black paint job and an 8gb flash memory upgrade which the core fraternity would get a better kick out of.

Nintendo know that graphics do not make a game and that better graphics do not make a game more immersive [case for: Lttp is more immersive a game than Bioshock] but instead better Gameplay options. Nintendo havent just built a new R&D Building to squeeze better textures out of a TV.

If it was a DSi style upgrade then I could understand the logic behind it. Add some sort of internal upscaler, flash memory, HDMI output and a few other improvments to the Wii and then just replace the current model with the Wii1.5 and retain the current price point, it'd tie in with what Iwata was saying about price cuts ages ago.

If a HD Wii were to be made, wouldn't games have to be made specifically for it? So that they are in HD...

Nah, they could do what emulators are doing and upscale older games.

I have an N64 emulator that can display the old games in stupidly sharp resolutions. Can be done with Wii too.

I'd get an HD Wii. It would have the best of both worlds - HD graphics and more variety when it comes to control schemes for games.

Have you tried the Rice Video plugin? You can use it to apply fan-made texture packs to games.

Rendering at a higher resolution >>>> upscaling.

A scaler would be nice to stop Wii looking like utter trash on my TV, HDMI would be nice.

My contribution...

For now, upscaler rather than full hdmi which will be reserved for the next true incarnation. More importantly motion+plus in-built to the controllers and, new colours - there has to be a recognisable difference and new colours is such an easy way to short term boost numbers. Wii is in 'trouble' in Japan - I've said it was coming for a while and people said otherwise - ps3 is the next big thing there - there I've said that too !!!. BUT if Iwata, who as far as I can see, is one hell of a savvy businessman, trickles out some minor upgrades, they will be lapped up. More importantly is the question of just how much games such as wii 'pissing about on the beach' and 'monster g' make a difference. I disagree with some on here that reckon graphics aren't that important - I reckon people do want graphics that at least start to look like gamecube x 1.5/2 - they do want 'proper' games, but they also want the new form of input. I can't abide final fantasy but I can't imagine the japanese putting up with a new incarnation in anything less than a 'high res' version. They have to deliver some real stunners if they want to totally hammer the nails into sony's coffin. (My prediction, however, is that Nintendo DON'T see this and are too busy trying to 'innovate' rather than complete.)

A good game is a good game regardless of looks. The whole 'Wii NEEDS teh HD' is a feeble arguement used by owners of HD consoles to stop themselves buying one. Graphics have never and will never matter that much. They ALWAYS come secondary to gameplay, at least in my house. Ill agree that half-arsed looks are a bad thing but to decry a game such as Corruption or even something as back-to-basics as Wii play as rubbish due to a 'low res' is just elitism taken too far. For what it is Wii play actually looks rather good. And Corruption has a better Art Style than any 360 shooter ive seen (particularly the use of color) and Id rather this be the topic of discussion for the next gen. There are too many generic looking games out there at the mo, Gears of War included (which takes a LOT of inspiration from WH40K).

I refuse to believe any 'core' gamer is so obssessed with looks they would deny themselves a Wii on that basis. Most of them surely own older consoles as well?

Has anyone played any old GC games recently? SSX3 suffers from less pop in than its modern equivalent, PURE and Metroid Prime still has a much better art style than Halo 3. Higher resolutions have yet to make my jaw hit the floor.

Maybe Nintendo can use the "GameBoy Color" / "DSi" model to the Wii:

They come out with a new version of the Wii with HD, a faster processor and more memory. It is fully backwards compatible with the existing Wii. Wii software can then be released in three flavours:

- Completely compatible with the original Wii
- Compatible with the original Wii but with 'extra features' for HD-Wii
- Only playable on HD-Wii.

The first two options are meant for a 'transition period', the third one for when Nintendo decides to phase out the current Wii.

Or it could be the proper follow-up for the Wii.

i know the op said many sky engineers, but our engineer arrived, removed +box, connected HD box, plugged it into hdmi socket 3 and there it has stayed ever since with no scart involved at all.

i might add that the original HD box was recently replaced due to a knowing fault in the box Wii had and again, no use of scart.

I've been tempted to get a new Wii since the graphics card on mine appears to be borked. Getting horrible pixellation on cutscenes and in game sometimes.

If a HD Wii is confirmed then I would definitely hold off until it is available.
