The game has gone to hell now though, episodic will kill this.

I've pre-ordered as well. Eurogamers write up on this today has got me interested again. As long as the Beta shows me a game thats more Blood Money than Absolution they may have gotten a sale from me.

From what I've played so far, this is Hitman. And By Hitman I mean Blood Money not Absolution.

Beta seems to consist of a tutorial level which you go through once with guidance (Go here, take this, use this etc). You then get to go through again however you want, which is where it blossoms opens into the Hitman of old. There also seems to be one further "Test" as part of the Tutorial, but I've not done that yet. All told there's not a lot to do here, but the "freeform" test has lots of replay value from completing small challenges (Kill the target with rat poison, use a specific disguise etc) and finding new and inventive ways to take out the target.

I'm in. This definitely feels like Hitman should feel and I'm already looking forward to playing about with it some more.

I'll wait for reviews to decide if I'm gonna buy the episodic gooseberry fool or wait for the full thing though.

I'm not so sure after playing the beta

-Disguises do seem better than Absolution but the white dot targets are off-putting.
-Weapon targeting feels really off. I hate the lack of a dot reticle
-That framerate, christ. The full game better have a higher fps

Right now I'm on the fence. Sure that was just the "training" area, but there's a lot in there that has me more worried than excited.

Can't say I noticed any massive framerate issues. You could tell it took a dip when there were a lot of NPCs on screen at a time but it never bothered me. Though I freely admit to not really giving a fig about frame rates unless it makes something unplayable.

I do agree with you on the reticle making aiming trickier than it otherwise would be when you're moving though. When you have time to line up a shot it's not an issue, but in a quick situation it can cost you.

As for the white dots on people who'll be able to see through the disguise you might be able to turn that off. I know I turned off instinct as soon as the game started and it does seem to be quite flexible in terms of what assists it lets you turn on/off.

But yeah, I'm still far more interested than I thought I was going to be. The return to something much closer to Blood Money has ensured that at least.
