Can't wait.

That would be fantastic. Sadly, I'm pretty sure bluray players won't output 60fps.

Went and watch it last night.

I liked it, but I reckon it's the weakest one of the "Middle-Earth saga". Too many characters, and I couldn't remember most of them!

Spoilers ahoy!

The scenes where the trio turned up and rescued Ganadalf was enjoyable, especially a 91 year old Christopher Lee held up his own against many of the 9 condemned men.

Billy Connolly! Awful CGI make up. But I loved his scenes.

The Dwarf King's "drowning in gold" scenes is rubbish. It just look out of place...

Legolas. I laughed so much at his scenes, especially his fight scenes against Azog's spawn...Blog?I can't remember his name. The collapsed tower, crumbling stones and Legolas just run up like it's nothing and his death blow on the spawn character is hiralious. It's like he's uttering "da faq!" as legolas piledrivered the sword into the top of his head. He seems more overpowered in this.

Is this LOVE!? PLEASE TAKE IT AWAY!!!!

The only surprise is the death of the Dwarf King. Didn't expected that. No, I didn't read the book but I plan to.

Only one thing I find a gripe is how Ganadalf says the Dwarves' home is a more important piece of land due to its strategic position... and yet it was long forgotten in the LOTR saga. Doesn't make sense.

It's important for the northern Orcs, but they are all killed or routed. In LOTR they all come for Mordor, the only gooseberry fool to came from the north are dodgy men.

Guess it could be assumed the Dwarves have rebuilt and resettled the mountain too, making it near impossible to take. Dwarven holds are ment to be the hardest nuts to crack in middle earth, Moria for example had been attacked several times, but it's only when the Dwarfs dig too deep that they unleash a strawberry floating demon inside and then have to leave then the Orcs roll in.

One thing that annoyed me, or atleast isn't tied up...

Saruman tells the two Elfs to strawberry float off while he goes off to finish Sauron, and then is never heard of again in the film. Thought it might show how he got converted to the dark side.

Also, the Starwars trailer on the big screen :datass:

Saw it today. Initial impression was it was the one I liked least out of the trilogy. If I never see another Legolas Super Elf scene again then it won't be too soon.

Yeah... But then that would in a sense a spoiler for those who watch The Hobbit first then Lord of the Rings? Granted most of us would know but future generations wouldn't know.

/in before Denster raging that they should read the books first.

Just got back from this. I was disappointed.

You know something's gone pretty wrong when Stephen Fry gets more screentime than the dragon the entire book is based around.

Too little Smaug, too much stupid Alfred. Also far too much of the pointless not-actually-meant-to-be-there Tauriel/Kili romance. Vom. Was so glad when he died.

I liked how they only killed off the dwarfs who'd actually done anything throughout the whole series, too (I'm fairly sure a few of them didn't even have any lines for the whole two hours). But that's a flaw with the book rather than the films.

Should've left it as two films.

Is the ending as bad as Gollum falling into Mt. Doom without burning to a crisp?

Watched Filler of Smaug tonight.

Genuinely shocked at how aimless it was. Lots of it made no sense and Jackson has gone full George Lucas.

That molten gold. :dread:

And that "ending."

Read a few reviews of this. Sounds like a complete and utter disaster to be honest.

Jackson is a talentless banana split.

Watched it in hfr and felt like i was watching a sped up movie - this just does not work at all and will look forward to rewatching all three in hd sometime next year.

Sad that this is the end. A brilliant bunch of movies and there maybe a lot of criticism, but everything was done with so much detail.

I do feel the opening should have been in the second film, but seems to have been strategically timed to keep movie goers wondering how it concludes.

The two main baddies were too similar imo. Must read the book to see where they added stuff in to pad it out as the novel is shorter than one of the lotr saga!

I'm watching Kung Fu Panda at the moment and the fight between Shi Fu and Tai Lung is more interesting that any set piece in the first two Hobbit films because I actually give a crap about the characters.

The Hobbit films are just elbow-nudge references to LOTR in between big, stupid, CGI set pieces.

I couldn't figure out why randomly Jackson decides to use actors as Orcs at times and CGI for the majority. CGI was a massive blunder, but at least be consistent.

Saw this last night and thought it was okay! I do like the funny bits they add into these films. But overall I think I prefer the 2nd film.

Btw what is a hurricanrana?
That Legolas did? I don't recall him using any magic?

Though is commonly referred as an Hurricanrana, the original, Spanish name for this maneuver is the Huracanrana (the name was taken from Mexican luchador Huracán Ramírez). This is a head scissors take down that ends in a double leg cradle pinning hold, though it is often performed in American wrestling without the aforementioned pinning combination. (A rana is any double-leg cradle.) A somersault version also exists.

The LOTR movies are strawberry floating awesome, Return of the King might be the best movie ever created. That's not luck. You know what I think it is? The idea of doing the LOTR Trilogy was in Peter Jackson's head for years before production began. He had a lot of time to ruminate about how he was going to achieve filming it and what he was going to do with the story. He had the time to be meticulous and think about things. That's the main difference for me between The Hobbit and LOTR trilogies. One was a labour of love, the other seems like it was cash in and not much deep thought was put into it. There's also the fact that, in my personal opinion, The Hobbit isn't really as easy to translate to film than the other trilogy. I love the book, but I had real reservations about how well it would do as a film.

I just got back from this. I'm just....I need to think more about it overall. It was easily better than the DoS but some of it was just so strawberry floating stupid. Making three movies out of this was utterly dumb. You could make two, two hour films out of the stuff they shot. Oh god, the filler was something else.

On the plus side, Martin Freeman was great in the scenes where he got to actual say something.
