Can't support this at all. Even buying it second hand gives visibility to the project, and therefore the Potter universe, and therefore JK Rowling. It's not much of a protest against transphobia because nobody gives a flying strawberry float about me or my playing habits, but it's what I can do.

On a totally different note I found Lindsay Ellis recently and think she's bloody great. Though I watched her video about Bush-era protest music and thought it was insanely reductive about some of the stuff that was released, basically taking the piss out of grammy-winning, platinum-selling protest music, and a band who single-handedly managed to sign tens of thousands of people up to vote against Iraq in 2004.

Been following her work for years and yeah, that's probably one of her weakest videos. It's her seemingly delving into a world she's not completely immersed in, unlike literature and film, and it shows...even if the vid was a collaboration.

I saw this yesterday and thought, damn that looks cool I want it, but I can't buy it. Maybe I'll get it second hand.

I really really want this to be good. It looks fantastic, and I’m hoping you can explore areas like the Chamber of Secrets & such perhaps bending the canon just for the games sake.

Then again, being set so far in the past the charms of the teachers & such that everyone knows aren’t there, so they’ll really have to deliver some good characters to make it feel real, liveable and magical.

I’ll actually get it on Day One if the gameplay videos do justice

If you can buy that game, and proudly announce it in here no less, given what's been posted...that merits pushback.

The impractical problem with principled purchasing decisions is that you become unable to buy or enjoy anything ever. With Harry Potter JK Rowling is very publicly the creator and face of the brand so I understand the reluctance to in any way support her given her transphobia. On the other hand on an individual level I can understand someone not wanting to boycott the game, denying themselves enjoyment of something they want, when their decision in isolation will make no discernible impact to the issue (both because a single sale will make no difference to the overall performance and because JK Rowling is already wealthier than she ever needs to be).

Luckily I'm not that into Harry Potter so it's an easy decision for me to not buy this, but I won't berate some Harry Potter superfan deciding to play this despite feeling conflicted over JK Rowling's politics.

This looks pretty good, kind of like an action adventure Harry potter game. I've got no interest in Harry potter itself, but this could be one to watch.

I don’t like Batman, but I play the Batman games because they’re so good.

This can strawberry float off.

All true. But none of that invalidates my pushing back, very mildly I might add, when people literally ignore the content of this thread and proudly post about their purchasing.

Rowling believes trans people don't deserve to exist. If you are able to blithely ignore that then of course I'm going to point it out, at the very strawberry floating least. It says a lot about that person I think.
