Ah yes. That is perhaps the worst in the game (secret bosses notwithstanding). You may or may not know you can chop off a decent portion of its life bar before the battle begins...?

I don't remember having too much trouble with those guys, I was getting screwed at first because I was playing handheld with the sound down/off but I think once I realised there was an obvious audio cue for when they are doing various attacks (e.g. the roll across the screen) then that made it much easier.

Managed to advance past the stupid jumpy mushrooms. As much as I really don't like parts of it I can't keep coming back to this. Just a shame that it feels inevitable that I will come up against another brick wall at some point.

Mushrooms were no problem I found, what IS a problem is a bit in the gardens where there are giant bugs moving over acid water bits and you have to do the downward strike coupled with dash to get across. Now I got all the way across first try, marvellous, except it's a dead end, so I try to go back the way I came and can I do it? Can I strawberry float :fp: Dead, nearly 1000 currency gone. Oh and if I want to kill my ghost I have to go all the way across and put myself in the same situation which will just end in tears.

banana split game.

Can't you get back along the top of the screen? Unless I'm mistaken I don't think that requires getting past the "dead end".

Also if you want your ghost back without going back, open the door to the far right in dirtmouth

Nope. But then I don't know how I would or even that it did given that they don't have on screen life bars. It was the first time I walked away from a fight in this. It might not be so bad if I thought there was at least a decent window to heal. Seemed like a damage check boss so I felt no desire to try it anymore till later.

Found a whole bunch more things. Powers and upgrades etc. Can now double jump and not die in acid. Can also use the trams now. I'm sure I'm forgetting some things because this game has so much. Finding the backtracking increasingly tiresome. I had to go back to the blacksmith 3 times to get the upgrade. I didn't realise I'd need 2 ore this time and then I didn't have enough cash. Why is such an important place so far out the way?

I love the world. But Deepnest is a dick. I wouldn't mind it so much but I went out of my way and dealt with its frustrating traps and shite and found a couple of pointless NPCs which rewarded me with nothing. Part I also making me question the save points/health/ghost ideas. Bit like what happened with Ad7 but I died in a tricky platforming section (in the crystal area with spinning platforms and the bugs that shoot crystals at you) so when I got back not only was I weaker (limited healing) but I now had to deal with my ghost in the platforming and bugs and crystals and the ghost was shooting me. So I died. Lost my cash. Had to trek back again and eventually do as the ghost was in slightly friendlier place. But it was pissing annoying.

Explore the room just beforehand. Especially upwards. You can cut off one of their regenerations that way.

They're still annoying bastards though.

Oh good Lord the evening I've had playing this :dread:

I decided to have a little explore and as usually happens, quickly ended up off map and exploring blind (save my position icon). I started to amass enough grubs to make the thought of dying horrible, so imagine my delight when I fall in to deepnest with no way out I could find apart from to just head deeper and hope I get out.

strawberry floating hell, by the time I'd got out, I'd picked up the tram ticket and then ended up somewhere ELSE completely new and off map arghhhh. By now I had about 1300 grubs which is a lot of the way towards the bug light thing I want to buy next, so the thought of dying now, god knows how far from the last unmarked bench :dread: :dread: :dread:

Finally FINALLY made it back to the starting area without dying (was down to 1 hit against tough enemies at one point). I'll just grind the remaining grubs I need up here next as I can't bear the thought of losing that lot.

My uncovered map so far (I think I'm neatly missing a lot of things I need because I've only fought 2 bosses so far, and have only unlocked wall jump, dash and 1 sword upgrade.)

I do like that the design and mechanics of this do make you feel isolated, vulnerable and a long way from safety at times - too many games make it so you either feel safe most of the time, or provide mechanics where death has little or no consequence. It's nice to feel something a bit more oppressive every now and then ... though I admit it can be annoying at times!

I've been using my shadow cloak ability to explore a few of the previously blocked areas, hit upon a new boss area where I get ambushed by a bunch of mantis things, then that other warrior shows up to help me fight them, only to then be jumped by a GIANT strawberry floating mantis! This may take a couple of attempts to beat!

That boss took me a good number of runs, and it's one of the few where you have to be genuinely careful getting back to it from the nearest bench. Good luck!

Yeah I've been back a couple of times already and the location does mean that if you're not careful you are arriving at the fight already a few hits down!

Going to give it another go tonight, I was playing handheld last time and I find my skills are a but better on the pro controller so I'll see if playing docked with that helps me out.

Totally agree. As stressful as it was, if death had no consequence I doubt id even remember that play session.

You got loads left to find. :toot:

I think I've now unlocked all the major moves as I can now pass through the black wall things. Finding the thing that did that was seriously cool. With one very obvious nod to Metroid. I've beaten one of the 3 major boss guys. The Teacher? The one in the jungle area. Was surprisingly easy but cool. Had a go at the colosseum and beat the first round. Zote  I've read about 50 odd of his rules back in Dirtmouth now. :slol: I'm running around with over 5,000 and nothing to really spend it on at the moment. And I've got loads to sell. I'm not sure this system works as well as it could. Not really enough to spend it on.

I feel like I'm missing something here, like I'm perfectly going around places that give upgrades and powers, because I found two more areas tonight, a mine with some crusher things and flippy platforms. I beat a crystal guy who was taking up a bench there. I forget the other area but surely I should have got more powers by now right? I've only got a single nail upgrade, wall jump, some sword charge attack and dash. Am I missing something here?

You've yet to hit the point where the game gives you proper direction, but you're close. You just need to get through the Crystal Peak
