The proof will be in the demo we see. If they actually make that work as open world, unscripted, it'll be fantastic.

Looks good to me. Open world sounds alright, as well - if it means you can do stuff at your own pace rather than have some banana split shouting at you in your ear when you divert from the objective for more than a second (ie COD), then I'd be happy.

I thought Homefront 1 was solid. Not exceptional in any way, but a solid few hours of story.

Of course, I think I did play it immediately after watching Red Dawn so I might have been primed.

Though, actually, I've remembered why I played it now. It got quite a bit of buzz for having a pretty brutal opening sequence that was a typical Half Life style exposition elevator until you get to the kid who's mother is pleading with him not to look as she gets gunned down, and then the little kid runs over to hug his mum's bleeding corpse.

Homefront: The Revolution out in May, new gameplay trailer

Xbox One exclusive closed beta set for Feb.

Homefront: The Revolution comes out on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on 20th May 2016, publisher Deep Silver has announced.

The closed beta - exclusive to the Xbox One - launches in February. To access the beta, you have to get an "Xbox One Beta Token", which will be given out via upcoming promotions.

Meanwhile, there's a new gameplay trailer, below, that shows off the open-world first-person shooter's Occupied Philadelphia, 2029 setting.

Homefront is developed by Nottingham studio Dambuster, which was founded by Deep Silver after the publisher bought the rights to the Homefront series from Crytek. Crytek UK, which had been developing Homefront, closed down after its parent company ran into financial difficulty.

Yeah, technically it looks a bit clunky, but I like the storyline and the style. I'm definitely interested in playing this!

Having watched a bit more of this game, I'm getting a good vibe. It seems like the kind of title that is going to fly under the radar, have a few technical challenges, but deliver a great single-player adventure.

Is anyone planning to give this a whirl?

Thinking about it, but probably not at release. One of those 'wait for a sale' titles..?
