Yea, I just watched this last night.

Hit and miss as any anthology is, and some were dreck, but the couple that were genuinely imaginative were really fun.

(The little trick or treating alien  )

IT was a bit naf, was more of a comedy. The original was far more interesting imo.

Pretty faithful to the tone of the book though. I'm about two thirds through the book and it's more about rites of passage, bullying and domestic abuse than pennywise so far.

Watched Annabelle Creation on Saturday.

Ehhh.

As with so many modern horror films, the first two acts were decent, but as soon as the 'evil' had presented itself, it lost any scariness. See also: Insidious, Mama, various others.

Watched Quarantine on Netflix. I didn't realise this was almost a straight remake of Rec. I thought it would try to do something new with the template.

It's kinda redundant.

Godzilla wrote:If you liked that then try A Christmas Horror Story, same Creep Show set up but all tied together very well with some genuinely funny and some genuinely creepy bits. It's currently on Netflix.

I'll give that a bash thank you very much.

Jigsaw is just like a later Saw sequel. It's not offensively bad, just very middle of the road and light on twists and scares. Huge surprise considering the guys who made it made daybreakers and undead which are amazing and very inventive.

Yea it's exactly as Godzilla said. It would fit in perfectly between 5 and 6 (but it's nowhere near as fun as 7).

A big part of the problem is that every single bit is ripped off from an earlier film, so there's nothing you haven't seen before. And worse, because it feels so familiar, you just spend the whole time trying to work out which bits been ripped from where (hint; it's all of them).

It's got the;
'Follow the rules EXACTLY' stuff from 3.
The 'Ooooh maybe it's not as chronologically clear as you thought!' from 2.
The 'But Jigsaw's deeeeeaaaaadddd!' nonsense from 4 onwards.
The 'He has a (magic) detailed knowledge of our past siiiiiiiiins' from 5.
Also, the 'We're aaaaaall in thiiiiiis togetheeeeeer bit from High School Musical and also 5.
The 'Jigsaw saved me, and trained me'stuff from 2 and 5 and 7.

It also had truly ludicrous plot holes; like characters having specific tapes that only become available to them halfway through the game (which presumably means that had that character died in literally any of the preceding traps then whoops the whole game was strawberry floated.)

That said, it wasn't awful, it was just... Exactly what you'd expect a mid-run sequel to deliver. It was nowhere near as fun as 7 (which just said strawberry float it and went to the wall with everything), but it wasn't clever enough to breathe new life in to a series that was just so done. As I said, it would have fit in perfectly between 5 and 6.

The Ritual (2017) A pretty good British cast and its actually half decent.

A group of college friends reunite for a trip to the forest, but encounter a menacing presence in the woods that's stalking them.

Original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is now on Prime. Fancied watching this last month so might give it a watch this week. One of the all time greats.
