Crimson Peak is pretty good, but 99% of it's goodness comes from how arty it's shot. Can't imagine it'd come off very well on a camrip or anything :shifty:

Wayyyyyy too reliant on jump scares, though. It's quite similar to the Woman in Black in that respect.

Anyone seen A Christmas Horror Story, its immense. Like Trick R Treat but less focused and with added William Shatner actually being really really good.

Wish my image sig would work

I watched banshee chapter last night and I really enjoyed it. The end part I thought was a bit brief but the film had a lot of suspenseful moments in it and was filmed really well .

I too will be watching The Babadook, although I might not make it through the whole thing given how pathetic I am with horror films.

Edit: started watching The Conjuring instead.

Just watching Stephen King's It - laughably bad. :|

Anyone seen 'You're Next'? It's on Film4 in a bit, might give it a watch.

Finished the Conjuring, not bad, unsettling and very few jump scares.

Got in late from my flight so wanted to relax and watch A Nightmare on Elm Street, only to find it was removed from Netflix on 1st October??

I wanted to watch Hellraiser bb my gf was scared of the pic, so we settled for Sleepy Hollow. An enjoyable film that I've not seen for many years. Way more gory than I remembered too.

Enjoyed watching Insidious, didn't enjoy paranormal activity 2, currently watching para 3 & I'm not impressed so far.
It's like a prequel of a prequel.

Is that actually a horror film? Looks more like a comedy from the advert I saw.

First and foremost it's a horror film, yes. But it has comedy elements for sure.

Think along the lines of Evil Dead, Tucker and Dale vs Evil, Trick 'r Treat etc.

Do you often contemplate the complexity of life?

Yep this. It's written and directed by the guy who did Trick r Treat which was a brilliant piece of horror comedy.

It's coming up to that time of year again... :datass:

I've just read through the entirety of this thread to get in the mood, and to find some recommendations to add to my list. I'm not interested in zombie films, so that cuts things down quite a bit. Just gonna list what I've seen and haven't seen...might be of interest, and serves to help me keep track at least. I don't necessarily consider all of these horror films, but strawberry float it, they appear in a lot of horror film lists.

Seen:
Psycho
Drag Me To Hell
Insidious
Paranormal Activity
The Devil's Backbone
Ring
Ju-on: The Grudge
Event Horizon
The Exorcist
28 Days Later
The Wicker Man
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Thing
The Others
It
The Purge
Let Me In
Let The Right One In
You're Next
The Hills Have Eyes
Tucker & Dale vs Evil
Troll Hunter
Silent Hill
Resident Evil
Maniac
The Woman in Black
The Cabin in the Woods
Jeepers Creepers
I Know What You Did Last Summer
What Lies Beneath
Vacancy
Calvaire
Devil
I Spit on Your Grave
The Innkeepers
The Omen
Sinister

Want to see:

The Shining
The Blair Witch Project
The Orphanage
[Rec]
Hellraiser
Jacob's Ladder (have it on DVD ready to watch...)
Dark Water
Crimson Peak
The Conjuring
Candyman
Poltergeist
The Fly
Trick 'r Treat

There are undoubtedly a lot of Japanese/Korean films I haven't even heard of, let alone seen, but I intend to look into those after getting through some of the above. Hoping to get through some of the them over he next few weeks.
