Restrictive design decisions sap the energy from a series that revels in it, and technical issues deal the killing blow.

Why have PC gamer marked it down for technical issues when they no doubt played it before release?

Review code is treated as final, although it's sometimes accompanied by a list of known bugs expected to be fixed before launch. Believe it or not, games were marked down for technical issues long before launch day embargoes were a thing. ;)

I'm not really feeling this so far. It's more of the same, which I expected, but it feels a little less snappy for some reason. The music's awesome though.

I'm finding a few levels harder than the first, but that's due to the level design being a bit cheap and them chucking way more enemies at you.

Also a lot of the levels seem much more open than the first game and I'm suffering from a lot more off screen deaths.

Game is up on UK PSN. £10.99 or £9.89 with Plus discount.

Dat soundtrack indeed. I'm enjoying this, it's more of the same obviously but that's fine.

Also because I'm using a controller this time and keep dying before I remember what buttons do what :slol:

There's a few bits with offscreen enemies which aren't visible before you enter the room, even with use of the look button. You basically have to die to even know they exist.
I don't recall anything like that in the first. Other than that however I have no issues with the game, it's neither a positive or a negative but it does seem to be more gun heavy than the original

Liking it so far. Game seems harder than the first, maybe not quite so tight in level design, and the story lost me from the beginning which was probably to be expected.

Overall it seems to have a little less of that addictive gameplay loop that the first did so well and meanders a little more with the progression of levels, but it's basically more of the same and that is no bad thing.

The story is a bit all over the place. I think it jumps between the various characters too much and too quickly. I'm on my second playthrough and there was a lot of stuff I missed the first time. I really liked the ending too.

I know exactly what you mean about the addictive gameplay loop. I could happily sit and play the first game over and over again all day but I couldn't be arsed doing that with this (I actually fired up HM1 earlier and played the first 8 stages, the gameplay is just so much tighter and better designed). Thanks to the changes in gameplay there seems to be a far greater need to bait enemies out this time due to the sheer number of them. Those Hawaii levels are a prime example of the bad level design at its worst.

I tried some of it on hard mode earlier. Level layout is inverted upside down, no lock-on, melee is slower, more enemies in every level and they've chucked more of those fat banana splits in that can only be killed with guns. Can't be strawberry floated with any of that. Don't have any inclination to platinum this like I did with the first one.

Can't wait till the level editor is out. So much potential.

I've just got to the first Hawaii level and I'm not even sure if this character just has a terrible control gimmick or if my game/Vita has screwed up and needs restarting. I can't bloody aim, it's nonsense.

My PS4 version messed up there too. The crosshairs were offset from the character, so they were orbiting a point to the right of him and I could only aim in one direction. I picked it up from there on Vita via the cross save and everything was good.

But then the game crashed half an hour later.

Vita's the best version of this, btw.

I have played this for three hours last night.

It didn't instantly click for me like the original did. I put it down and proceed to watch Better Call Saul off Netflix, then jumped back in afterwards. The game didn't click until I got to the stage where I can use the Tiger mask bloke. The Zebra's special ability of rolling under/over(?) bullets seems to be fiddly? What's the button that use it (PS3 version.)

The story is all over the place. I'm sure I'll get it when going through it again on a second play through or more.

The level designs is poor compared to the original. Favouring guns more over melee weapons (seems there's more guns than actual melee weapons.) which is a shame considering I rarely use guns on the original HM game.

I didn't really use the look/lock on function (didn't even know about them until I finish the game. :fp:) on the original. But I got the feeling that this game would require you to use it... frequently.

That's /exactly/ what is happening to me. So it is a bug and not intentional then. Will try resetting then, ugh.

This ability annoys me because when hammering x to finish someone on the ground I then keep accidentally rolling straight afterwards which can screw me up.

I encountered that bug as well, although I thought it was a gimmick that I just wasn't getting and struggled through with the level anyway :fp:

Downloaded this onto my Vita too and was quite impressed my save carried over as well, didn't realise it would do that. I do find the game easier to use with a controller though, on a Vita I need to take my hand off the controls to lock on and it results in a lot of deaths.

Currently stuch on a level near the sea, it starts off with a load of guys with guns lined up on the right. I can get to the third floor but there seems to be far too many enemies, and quite a few of those guys you need guns to kill. Called it a day after dying there countless times, can't wait to finish work and give it another go though.

I thought the soundtrack to the first one would be tough to top but I think they might have done it

What's scary is that I managed to platinium the first one, without realising that there's a lock on button. :slol:

Now I'm more aware. I don't use it much as I prefer using fists/melee weapons.

I was about half way through the Vita version of the first game when I realised you could lock on with a button.
