Talking directly to the audience was taken from the original British version of the show. I didn’t mind that, it set the show apart from the others and was a nice way of explaining things to the audience/showing what the main character was thinking.

It’s such a shame that it turned into a big pile of gooseberry fool (ignoring Spacey’s crimes), the first season was great and it had real promise to be a great show. It just got more and more caught up with either ridiculous plots or on the extremely boring private lives of the main characters. It was a show that you wanted to watch to see a devious politician con their way to the top job and then to see them wielding ultimate power. Instead it became a show about a bloke’s wife who strawberry floats an artist and a spindoctor crying about a dead prostitute. Meh.

Great actor, gooseberry fool human being.

'House of Cards' employees allege sexual harassment, assault by Kevin Spacey

Kevin Spacey made the set of Netflix's "House of Cards" into a "toxic" work environment through a pattern of sexual harassment, eight people who currently work on the show or worked on it in the past tell CNN. One former employee told CNN that Spacey sexually assaulted him.

The former production assistant, whose account has never previously been disclosed, told CNN that Spacey sexually assaulted him during one of the show's early seasons. All eight people, each of whom spoke to CNN on the condition of anonymity for fear of professional repercussions for speaking out, described Spacey's behavior as "predatory," saying it included nonconsensual touching and crude comments and targeted production staffers who were typically young and male.

It's one of my favourite films, but all this stuff coming out is going to make American Beauty one hell of an uncomfortable watch. :dread:

But on the plus side it has made the end of The Usual Suspects better. ;)

Baby Driver takes on a horrible twist in light of this as well. :dread:

Holy gooseberry fool, I just thought. All this stuff means that Superman Returns is just as big as pile of gooseberry fool as it was before.

First season was good but it went rapidly downhill after that.

I've only seen the first and been meaning to start the second. Is it not worth it then?

I can't remember when it started getting gooseberry fool, the second season might have been ok.

If you enjoyed the first, then keep watching and then stop when you find yourself thinking "this is shite".

I agree with Moggy. It gets bogged down by plotlines that are just not interesting. Doug's sidestory just does nothing. There's also a lot of totally weird scenes that just made no sense to me.

I like the actors involved in the show, but they aren't used well at all.

Thinking about it, I would stop watching as soon as he becomes President. Nothing very interesting happens after that, so take that as the end of the series and stop.

The production values and the slick look of it are superb, but yeah the later series seem to lose their way.

It's even worse if you know that Thora Birch's creepy father insisted on being on set for her topless scene.

Yeah I've read about that. He was so weird and overprotective that it basically ended up completely killing her acting career.

Yeah whenever she had a role with a sex scene he apparently turned up and tried to direct it.

I really question the motives of parents whose kids are involved in show business. In fact only yesterday a woman came out saying Tom Sizemore molested a little girl on a film set, and the parents did nothing as not to hurt her career. Absolutely strawberry floating sick. Some people just don't deserve to have kids. Or be alive.

Seasons 1 and 2 are worth watching. Episode 1 of season 2 in particular has a very memorable scene.

If you stop after season 2 it will also feel like there was a satisfying ending. Just pretend anything after doesn't exist.

I was considering the show yesterday and came to the same conclusion, funnily enough. Your imagination is simply able to conjure up something better than what the producers came up with in the seasons that follow.
