Anything to do with games at all.

How often do you play games on release?

I will often buy smaller, interesting games relatively soon after release if they're about £15-£20 and there's a buzz about them from the various critics whose tastes tend to line up with my own.

With my collection of easily available games standing at around 1,900 titles it never really makes sense for me to spend more than that for any new release so it's pretty rare that I do that now. That's before you get to the state of games on release and the value of GOTY packages, although I think that's a problem that's generally overstated by a lot of people.

I usually play 2 games at a time, one from my backlog and one much newer so right now im playing Breath of the wild and deathloop. Pleasantly enjoying both.

When it's a game I'm excited for I definitely like playing at launch. I agree with all of the aformentioned benefits of waiting it out - cheaper, less bugs, new content - but that's offset against the social aspect of playing alongside others and joining in the discussion, something I'm surprised hasn't been brought up more already given this is a discussion forum for games! If it's a game I really don't want to get spoilers for, or that has an online component, those are other good reasons to play at release. Plus just not wanting to wait to play something I'm excited to play!

Those are definitely appealing points for getting a game at or near launch and factors into why I get some games, but I just hate the idea of having to pay extra for this especially when a lot of games will collapse in price after a few weeks or months. It doesn't seem worth it a lot of the time. I might not even end up liking the game that much, and it's a luxury I can't afford too often.

In fact it's partly why I like game forums because there is also a lot of discussion on older games, and we have stuff like GRplayed where we'll choose a game that's fairly accessible to play together and talk about.

I'm too busy working these days to justify buying new games when released last game i brought on release day was the last Gran Turismo and i have not played it in months. The only games i have played more on my PS4 are remasters of classic games. All released Turoks, Shadowman and GTA original release i tend to play them more if i'm the mood for playing a game.

I have Far Cry 5 which i have almost completed but not touched it in months. I'm either working and when i get in from work i don't think about gaming i go on the computer watch stuff on youtube catching up on motorsport or end up watching a film instead. If i do put the PS4 on its to watch a Blu-Ray or play and complete one of the remastered games i listed above which i find more enjoyable
