How much sport/exercise do you do, and have you been inspired by the Olympics to take up a sport?

Come now, still - your line of work means that you're effectively in a gym all day! :toot: .

I have barely noticed the olympics happening, and I don't watch TV. So, no..

I try to go for a short walk at least every other day (I work from home 90% of the time making this somewhat more difficult) and I recently went swimming.. once. I was surprised I even manage a few hundred metres considering I haven't swum in years, but I am meant to go every Saturday afternoon. I really should.

Not much now as I screwed up my knee a few weeks ago by incline running too hard. Got a GP appointment soon, so hopefully I have not done any serious damage.

I'm quite unhealthy when compared to many, but I'm probably healthier than a lot too..

I work shifts so my lifestyle is irregular. However I try to swim when I'm on my lunch break A day shift, so normally 2 or 3 times a week. Otherwise not a lot. I play badminton or squash irregularly, and sometimes go for a jog.

Cheers guys. I've made some pretty big lifestyle changes which were tough at first but seeing the progress has really helped me stick with it.

I'm tempted to try a bit of swimming (inspired by the Olympics), but it's finding a non gym pool nearby which is the problem.

I do two sessions of Ju-Jitsu a week, but last week I found out I broke a bone in my foot ages ago and have a chunk of bone floating around in there. I'm having a week off this week!

I went to a stag do the other week just agree the Olympics had started and tried clay pigeon shooting. We had a little competition between us and it turns out I'm not gooseberry fool at it. I really want to investigate doing that more, it was awesome!

Turns out my local council runs a few in my town/area, might be worth a look.

Every time I watch the Tour and Olympic cycling it makes me want to pick it up. Then I remember how I never learnt as a kid and I'd be too nervous to cycle on the road with the state of drivers around here and it puts me off :/

Jesus! My own ankle has been sore from sitting in combat base during BJJ, now I'm worried

Mine has been hurting for a while intermittently but never enough to actually bother the GP. I had a groundfight with a guy the other night that ended in a leg lock standoff, and as I rolled out I said to my friend I felt it was a bit off. I thought it was just a sprain/knock so just carried on, but whenever I tried to flip someone from guard or shift my hips I couldn't get any power from my leg as the foot hurt too much. I technically only have a bruise causing the problem at the moment (albeit it's a really strawberry floating painful one as it's in my second metatarsal area), but I must have chipped off a bit of bone in the past judging from the X-ray. I would imagine it was from a bad kick or something.

Nobody seems too stressed about it so I'm going to go back as soon as I can do a hip throw without limping after :shifty:

You don't know how to ride a bike?

Are there no off road cycle paths near you?

Nope and nope to both. :/

When I was a kid, it came to the time to take my stabelisers off or whatever they're called and I just never rode again after that. I needed a bigger bike, but I always told my parents not to worry about it as I never really needed one. I wish I had learnt now, because it'd make life easier. I guess it's never too late to learn, but it's harder to learn as an adult I'd imagine.

I’d love to cycle more. I have a decent road bike that I’ve barely used (mainly got it because I could get it cheap through a scheme at work) but several things put me off; I don’t trust drivers, the roads are packed, and the roads are falling to bits. Even if I go at the crack of dawn, which I have done before (got into a nice habit of going every Sunday morning about 6am last summer) the roads affect you, and it’s annoying having to go out of my way to be able to ride when it’s quiet and safer.

I need to find somewhere with smooth roads and that’s reasonably quiet, but that likely means taking the bike somewhere in the car first, which is a bit annoying.

All of that is why I prefer mountain bikes. Going up the south downs in this weather is bliss (albeit incredibly tiring).

Its definitely worth learning how to ride a bike. There must be somewhere near you that you can ride off road even if it is just a car park or a quiet cul-de-sac?

I am quite lucky living in Bristol as we have an off road cycle path that goes between Bristol and Bath (it’s about 16 miles each way I think). Once you are on it, other than a couple of times that you have to cross over a road, there are no worries about cars.

Yeah Qikz, you've got loads of parks near you just go there with a bike and start pedalling. You'll look a goon when you fall off but it's only learning balance.

I read this title as the perhaps more accurate, "How much sports/exercise do you have to do to be inspired by the Olympics?"

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."
