I had a HP Pavillion Slimline s3514, which just refuses to come on today. Never had a problem before. Having tried various things and looking round the tinternet, it looks like some of the HP machines have dicky motherboards that just give up the ghost without warning. Of course, trying to source the exact motherboard (Foxconn Irvine GL6E) has proven a fruitless task.

Rather than just buying a new machine, what would my options be for reusing some of the parts?

If the board hasn't taken anything else with it, you should be able to salvage most of it, though you may need a new case as well as mobo.

The Foxconn board is probably an OEM board, produced for PC manufacturers. Often these are slightly tweaked versions of a standard board made by the manufacturer, with reduced bios options and other changes to simplify maintainence/tie you to the PC manufacturer for support. can't seem to find much info on it at all, which means i'm not even sure which cpu you have - this will to a large degree determine which boards you can use.

Though before you get too involved in dissection - check the easy stuff first (fuses, power cables, etc :) )
