Mankind is the primary driving force behind the ongoing Holocene Mass Extinction, the sixth mass extinction event since life began on Earth. We're emptying the world of vertebrate life at an alarming rate and thoroughly ruining its biodiversity, not to mention polluting it with little idea of the consequences to the food chain, and altering its climate at rates too fast for many species to survive.
We're strawberry floating everything up and it's extremely upsetting to those of us who understand that.
While true, that doesn't mean it'd be better if humans went extinct instead. I think that'd be even more tragic
I don't believe our extinction is the solution, but perhaps if we are able to colonize other worlds, that will allow us to depopulate and re-wild large tracts of the Earth, turning them into vast new nature preserves.
