I played about 20 minutes last night. It seems really good, buuuut the wordless presentation is kind of killing my enthusiasm. A little too much faff to work out what it's trying to say at times. I'll have another run at it over the weekend.

What did you have trouble with? I've played for like two hours and the game doesn't seem to be trying to tell you anything much other than; "here's this big map, take a crack at it however you fancy."

I went West and hit the boss after about 2 hours. He's rock hard.

I'm about 3 hours in now. I can't manage the West boss but I've completed the East and am now making my way through the North bit of the map.

I like it. Bit of a shame that it's hardcoded to run at 30fps (perhaps getting it ready to run like crap on PS4 in true indie game fashion).

I thought it was sort of going for a Zelda/Dark Souls thing, but actually its got very watered down aspects of those with a few hints of Fez thrown in, but again, very watered down from what I can tell. It also relies too heavily on rubbing your face against every wall to find secret areas.

It's good fun but I'm sort of left wondering just what took so long. No single aspect of it stands out other than the art and world design. The combat, level design, puzzles (if you can call them puzzles - more just secret areas) are all solid but unremarkable.

Metro GameCentral wrote:In Short: Beautiful presentation and an intriguing open world environment, but the misjudged difficultly level is just too punishing.
Pros: Some of the best graphics of the generation and an equally amazing soundtrack. Huge open world area and cleverly-designed dungeons and monsters.
Cons: The lack of hand-holding and instruction is fine, but the difficultly level is just too unforgiving for ordinary players – especially the horribly frustrating boss battles.

I love the stylish appearance of the game but I suspect the difficulty level would be a bit too much for me.

I don't understand people going on about the difficulty.

I've never finished a Souls game but have smashed through all but the last boss. Only one of them gave me significant trouble. And you start again just outside the boss room.

The shotgun is massively OP and if reviewers got gud and used it they wouldn't be whining so much.

Really like this game. Gorgeous looking, very smooth, and hits that perfect level of difficulty for me (punishing, but not impossible). I will say that I think the narrative is like 90% pointless obfuscation. Once you start to work out what's meant to be going on, it's nothing particularly special or interesting.

Hyper Light Drifter for PS4, Xbox One launches July 26

They're still working on Vita version. No idea when that'll be released, though.

Probably my most awaited game. Feels more like a Vita game to me, I wonder if it'll be cross-buy. If not, I might wait a bit longer for the handheld version.

Any indications of how long the game is? I don't really have time for endless monster games any more.

Apparently already confirmed not to be cross-buy.

OK, cheers. Dilemma, then... might depend on how much it costs on PS4.

This is available to pre-order on PSN with a 25% discount for PS+ members at the moment, making it £9.74 instead of £12.99.

Anyone picked up the console version of this yet? I really wanted to pick it up but the talk of it being difficult has put me off a bit

For some reason the console version runs at 30FPS which is pretty annoying, maybe because it's made by like 10 people. Still plays and looks great though.

It's really not that hard. I had quite a bit of trouble with the north boss but I haven't hit any roadblocks apart from that.

This game is strawberry floating fantastic, it's like a 2D zelda but it gives you way more freedom, and the combat is SO good. Exploring old areas for secrets still fun because the combat is so enjoyable, and once you get the upgraded dash moving about great too.

I'm surprised this isn't getting more attention, it's a really amazing game.

What do other people think of this?

Seems a shame. He doesn't look well, mind.

Ah well, I had kinda been holding out for the Vita version but will now get the PS4 one at some point.

Shame, but health comes first. Hopefully an NX version is a possibility in the future when the updates for the game are complete and his health has improved.

Until then I won't be playing it. I don't have a Xbox One, PS4, or gaming capable PC :(

Dude this game would run on most modern PCs
