It is indeed.

Cheers for the swatches gecko, gives me something to work on.

Realised last night that the bottom left face button is sticking, which means way back when I made the button holes larger that I didn't make that one quite the right size, so the mechanism is sticking. Not to hard to fix, just means disconnecting everything again so I can sand it. I need to take it apart to paint it anyway so I'll do that she same time,

Might help get creative juices going. I find limiting pallete helps.

Is there a specific pantone library I can find those in? I'm using CS4 (still) so my options might be limited.

I'll see if the manufacturer provides one, but usually it's a case of using real swatches on a sheet. That is just a scan of one. Some of them are ridiculously close, but it's partly because it's actually impossible to reproduce the intensity of colour on any computer monitor. I try not to worry about it too much. The ones to watch out for are the yellows, browns versus red and other dark colours. If you want red, literally choose "red" and so on, you can make comparisons from there. Burgundy for example, is almost certainly not "dark red". Brown appears really dark, but it is still brown - I would say it's burnt umbre in art words. Also they're not Pantone colours but you can work with spot colours as that's exactly what they're for.

That scan comes from the manufacturer's PDF spec sheet, and I don't have physical swatches, I will try uploading a PNG and I can make a swatch library from colour picking to my best judgement. I need one anyway. Another thing you can do is import the pdf into photoshop /illustrator and colour pick from that so the colour space is correct(ed).

Sorry to interrupt your technical negotiations... but that sega font is aces - you should go with that, and I LOVE the coin slot changing colour. OMG you're making me want to do this so badly!

Don't let me steal the thread!

Here's the SEGA font btw: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ri72zu8ql9q3hfc/SEGA.TTF?dl=0

I'm guessing it was leaked internally forever ago as Sega employed a lot of young people in America. It still says Copright SEGA in the metadata so remember, personal use only!

I'm going to have to steal your idea Ad and go for Bradcade in the Sega font. I'm quite looking forward to the challenge of working up artwork in layers with a single colour per layer. Vectors

Do it.

New plan, I'm just painting the sides black and making a marquee graphic holder so I can do the graphics last if I want any.

An update: Finally got round to testing a few more roms last night and hardly any of them worked. Mostly they're either missing roms (is there some kind of common rom set that I need to install separate to Retropie?) or they just drop back to the list without running (the error files give a mixture of message but generally it's rom not supported). I guess I need to get roms specific to Mame4all (unless there is a better Pi emulator?).

Haven't ordered the cabinet yet as I'm waiting for an ebay voucher but once that arrives then I can crack on with the build too. Christmas looked a long way off but I'm starting to think I'm going to run out of time.

I've found roms to be a pain in the arse really. Many I've dropped in and they've just not worked, but getting them on there is so slow that if can take half an hour just to test one :dread:

These things take a crazy amount of time, most of which is because you've not done it before. I've decided to give my project a rest as I've got a load of gooseberry fool going on at the moment, but I'm going to start ordering more bits again in a few weeks.

Lots of ROMs for Mame and other arcade emulators (They do exist!) have dependencies on other ROMS. So for example Street Fighter II Champion Edition might require you have the ROM for plain Street Fighter II. In addition different versions of mame will have a slightly different "ROMset" which might not be totally compatible with the version you have. Not sure how it works for Retropie, but I'd make sure you have he most recent version, see what build of Mame it works from and try to get the correct ROMset for it.

Mame ROMs are where I've drawn the line on my retropie at the moment. Too damn complicated.

They can be a pain. It's why I stick with one version of MAME for quite a while before I get a newer one. Sometimes the ROMS get re-Dumped and there's a more up to date version of a game, which is adopted into MAME. It has the effect of making an older ROM that previously may have worked perfectly well completely useless.

The Audit tool within MAME is also quite useful for making sure you have the correct files and versions of the files for the build of MAME you're running.

Again though, whether this works for Retropie I don't know. I'll need to have a look myself.

I've downloaded clrmamepro and followed some information here - https://github.com/retropie/retropie-se ... aging-ROMs to audit my roms. I'll give the new ones a try later when I'm back at home.

When you say it takes ages to add roms, do you mean via network? Because if you follow the procedure to add roms via USB it's really fast.

All you have to do is shove them on a USB stick under a folder called retropie and in that folder under format folders like snes megadrive etc and it sucks them up automatically. Take it out when the lights stop blinking furiously. And it's a good idea to use a usb stick with a light on it.

Is there an easy way to clear out the ROMS folder before doing this on the Pi? I could do with getting rid of all the roms and doing it again.

strawberry float, this ROMs thing is a right bastard. I think the problem is that the ROMs I want have all been updated to newer versions but the MAME4ALL on Retropie is very, very, very old. Going to try another of the emulators on there tonight instead (lr-mame2003). They recommend that for Pi 2 & 3 but I'll try overclocking my 1 and see what happens. Most of the games I'm using are pretty old so I'm thinking they won't be too intensive.
