My marquee artwork has finally been delivered. I can finally start knocking bits of wood together now.

No idea what it'll look like when it's backlit. Could be awesome, could be awful. I think I'm going to need some electrical tape to cut out the light leakage around the edges.

Little final update. Managed to get it all finished for Christmas and it was a surprising hit with my kids, they absolutely love Simpsons Arcade. Well worth it and I had good fun knocking it together. Now I need a new project for 2017....

Honestly, no skills necessary. The cabinet I bought was pre-cut and I just sprayed it before assembling it. The buttons/sticks are all connected up with push on spade connectors and the usb controller cards were the ones Ad7 talked about earlier in the thread and they shipped with all the cables. The only work I had to do was with regards sound and lighting and that was mostly a bodge job.

Fair enough, it's sounds easier than I imagined. I'd likely strawberry float it though.

That looks like absolute quality work. The stranger things inspired 80's arcade logo as well is a nice touch. Love the Mr Do logo as well :D

Cheers! Trust me, you can certainly see the bodges close up (the cardboard bezel for the screen being one of them). I'm really happy with the Mr Do! logo's though, they work really well.

That looks amazing Rex- is it heavy? And won't they break it?

Now I do cnc I can probably sort out a nice perspex acrylic black bezel.

Edit: ah its perspex over the top, black polycarbonate is much cheaper.

Yeah, I can carry it about ok but I wouldn't let the kids try and move it. All the sticks and buttons seem fairly robust though I haven't given it a real hammering yet on Track and Field, that'll be the ultimate test.

Remember I wanted a bezel doing a while back? Can you do that sort of thing now? It's what's holding my one up, need various bits laser cutting.

Yes, give it a few weeks and I'll have my tooling sorted out. Hopefully going to get basic flat mills sorted out sooner.

It's better than laser as there's no singing and I can cut through anything. Can do chamfers, bevels etc, think 2.5D. Fine details are limited until I get smaller mills that won't snap (in other words I've done enough jobs that I've destroyed a few tiny mills and can afford more.. this is hard :shifty:).

Excellent. As I said with the vinyl stuff (before I changed my mind.) I'd rather give my money to a forumite.
