I just bought an iPad (finally). This one, to be exact. Mainly because I'm off to Thailand in the new year for a short holiday with my older brother and his wife and I didn't fancy being without a useful bit of technology to occupy me in those quiet moments. It's also going to be useful for my home music set-up (it connects to my Roland Integra 7 synth with a special app).

So, iPad aficionados, what do I need to know about iPad - I'm an iPad n00b?

Have you ever owned any kind of tablet device before?

Remember to endlessly drop it in to conversation that you have an iPad now, post about it on Facebook and twitter, perhaps start a forum topic with the subject, "worst I've got an iPad now".

i only use mine for browsing the web.

Nope. My prehistoric Kindle doesn't count.

So anyway, I got the iPad Air 4 about a week ago. Yeah, very nice. Not sure what I'll use it for apart from as a mobile GRcade viewer while I'm away from home, but it seems pretty good. Overall, though, I think it bears out my suspicions about these tablet PC thingies... sort of nice to have but ultimately more of an indulgence than a necessity. Quite heavy, too. Surprised about that, when compared to my trusty Kindle.

When you say Kindle, you mean a Kindle e-reader? Not really the same thing as a tablet (and a lot smaller as well).

I use my Mini for games and media. When I say media it makes an excellent magazine and comic viewer, I've also been using it recently with a Chromecast, the iPlayer and Netflix apps enable you to cast to the Chromecast.

The only other thing I've really used it for at all is to look at my email.

I know people who use theirs a lot for photo editing and even taking photos, but really there are a lot of other things you can do with it you just have to find something that is useful for you.

What's your username on Gaf? We should make a GRcade community thread.

Also Cal, I have a list of some essential apps you can't do without.

You should have got a PC tablet. I have an Acer, i5 processor and 11" screen. Properly useful, can do anything my PC does.

Yes?

Download this iPad new user tips app here. It's temporarily free and should give you an all round introduction.

There'd a paid app for how to use the thing you just bought?

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."
