Although because of the FAT32 thing, if you have any individual file over 5.5 gig or whatever the limit is it can be a bit of a problem but I can't think of anything that'd be that big.

It can read NTFS but not write, not until you install some drivers. Which is easy enough, but that's Microsoft's fault for not making NTFS an open standard, for whatever reason. It's all reverse engineering.

Just done a quick search and the first page or so of results they want money for it. Is there a free app that allows Mac's to read & write?

There is. It's called 'ntfs-3g' and it's pretty simple to install.

And Firefox for Mac works in exactly the same way the Windows version does. I don't think there is any difference between them at all, aside from appearance.

You'd want to keep hold of your Sony for Office 2007. Office 2008 is wank.

Yes.

Steve, what will you use the Mac for, anything different to the Viao?

Really? All the reviews I had read said that it was very good. What's wrong with it then?

I think paying over £1000 for one just to muck about with media files and surf the web will give you a pretty good understanding of what Mac is all about. ;)

If you had listened to me in the first place and bought the new MacBook Pro at the time, you wouldn't be in this pickle now.

I have no idea why people don't trust my opinion when I give it so openly, honestly and with reason in "Ask the Forum".

MacBook Pro is too large. And I am not getting rid of the Vaio, it will be used a heck of a lot.

Fishfingers am fail.

Compared to its Windows counterpart you're only really getting half the package. And that's not just in terms of the software bundled.

Compatibility with Spaces, which you may end up using a lot if you catch on to the multi-desktop thing (it's great), is buggered for some reason. It'll make it go mad. No other application does this, not even ones coded before Spaces was introduced. There's no fix in sight for such a horrendous bug.

All the tools you need aren't put along a toolbar, but in a tiny little box called an Inspector. It'll take far more clicks than necessary to find what you want in this because everything's hidden in collapsible categories. There's a nice big colourful toolbar thing, which would've been perfect for all of these controls, but it was used for pointless template previews instead. :fp:

It would be brilliant but it doesn't feel like it should be an OS X app. Generally most of the better coded OS X apps share the same sort of look and feel, but Office just flies in the face of it. It's the equivalent of how iTunes and Safari look in Windows (which is lazy and strawberry floating ridiculous).

I'm still thinking about it ;)

Just to get an idea on price, if I choose the 2.4GHz model (base price £1125), double the RAM to 4GB, change the 250GB drive for a 320 unit, add the AppleCare Protection Plan it comes to £1486.

What's this about a new OS next year? I read that a OS update can be applied like a patch only it costs £££'s...is that right?

Like I said, my Mac knowledge is 0.

jesus christ man dont spend that on a mac. Crazy amount of money for a mac, it might look nice overall but thats a lot of cash for a system thats limited compared to a pc laptop for that price. I think macs are great if you arent very technically minded and want something nice to look at and use the net and simple stuff but if your experienced with pc's if i would stay clear of macs

Once again, what is limited about it? All I get is people claiming mac osx is limited but I never hear any real arguments. Is that because it's a croc of gooseberry fool?
I'm very technically minded and have never found macs to limit what I want to do. If anything it allows me to be more creative, and with substantially less effort.

I think it says something about limitation when at least two of the Mac users on this forum are web developers, one with professional experience.
