My workflow is just so much better on OS X. I've got ImageWell for doing quick edits and uploads for news stories and I've got the power of hot corners to really help me out. Transmit is a great application too.

I don't see why not. Any problems i've heard about just don't really pose any big problem, the keyboard is excellent...plus some other stuff.

I don't use my laptop for games at all, and it's not a Mac.

If you can be bothered to upgrade the RAM yourself it'll probably cost a third of what they're charging you. And maxing it out is always worthwhile, obviously.

The problem with Macs is that while they're constantly being upgraded and what not, they hold up well for a very long time, so I really can't see myself needing to buy a new one for at least another two years.

And I want a new shiny shiny. :(

And thanks for the NTFS disk thing, lads. Highly useful, methinks.

The new MacBooks use a faster standard of RAM and Apple's prices are actually quite reasonable for it at the moment.

Never used ProTools but I use Logic Express 8 which is great on my iMac.

What Anti-Virus software do people use for Mac's? Does it have a built in firewall and is it any good?

Thanking you.

On topic, it'd be easier to just buy one and then ask what you can do after. I think it was St Nick who did this and we all had a lot of help to offer.

Yep it was me. I bought one and all the guys on here were more than happy to help explain what everything was while I was playing around and seeing what things I could do. Couldn't have been more helpful.

I honestly would never want to choose to go back to windows again, I have a desktop PC, but never use it, in favour of my MacBook. Brilliant, brilliant machine.

EDIT: Oh, and before I came into this topic, I KNEW FE would be in here slagging the mac off.

I'm still thinking about it ;)

Just to get an idea on price, if I choose the 2.4GHz model (base price £1125), double the RAM to 4GB, change the 250GB drive for a 320 unit, add the AppleCare Protection Plan it comes to £1486.

What's this about a new OS next year? I read that a OS update can be applied like a patch only it costs £££'s...is that right?

Like I said, my Mac knowledge is 0.

jesus christ man dont spend that on a mac. Crazy amount of money for a mac, it might look nice overall but thats a lot of cash for a system thats limited compared to a pc laptop for that price. I think macs are great if you arent very technically minded and want something nice to look at and use the net and simple stuff but if your experienced with pc's if i would stay clear of macs

Once again, what is limited about it? All I get is people claiming mac osx is limited but I never hear any real arguments. Is that because it's a croc of ****?
I'm very technically minded and have never found macs to limit what I want to do. If anything it allows me to be more creative, and with substantially less effort.

They dont play games very well, that is limitation , for the amount of money they cost they do a limitless amount of difference so youd think hey id like to play some games. Nope that cant happen because there arent many games about for them. That is why.

I would buy a Mac instantly, but work use Windows and I can't be bothered to even think about compatability issues.

No antivirus, and the built in firewall does the job admirably.

We don't. That should answer your question. 8-)

Degoose:
You can play games on a mac, albeit not as many as on a pc. That's nothing to do with the OS being restricted.

Anyway, I'd be surprised if Steve doesn't have at least one games console he can use for that, instead of playing games on a tiny laptop screen. If he really wanted to do that he'd use his 2 week old Sony Vaio.

2.4GHz model is a complete waste of money. MacWorld's benchmarks showed only a marginal increase in performance over the 2.0GHz model and the only other thing you get is a couple of LEDs under the keyboard.

Steve, didn't you also really want a ps3 at launch?
Is it still gathering dust from neglect since launch?

Perhaps if you hadn't just dropped 1.5k on a vaio it'd be a feasable idea.
