Repeats of the hit US comedy Friends will no longer be shown on Channel 4 and sister station E4 from next autumn.

The sitcom, which stars Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer, has been a regular fixture on the broadcaster's schedules since 1994.

Channel 4 said the move would free up funds for new shows and acquisitions.

"After 15 years, 10 hit series and 236 terrific episodes, it's time to say goodbye to old Friends and welcome new ones," said Channel 4's Gill Hay.

She added: "We are incredibly proud to have been the home of Friends for so long, but at a point when the channel is undergoing a period of creative renewal it felt like the right time to part company."

In a statement Channel 4 said it was hopeful the decision would "provide an opportunity to refresh the schedule" across both networks.

Isn't that like...90% of their scheduling gone?

It's a sad day for Telivision.

Yes I've seen them all countless times but it was always worth watching every now and again to have a few cheap laughs. :(

:o  Big news!

Channel 4 and E4 will not be the same again.

I presume Will and Grace or Fraiser will fill the spot

About bloody time.

I swear I've seen all 10 seasons three or four times in one bloody year, thanks to E4.

Only it to be replaced by some trash like Before I Meet Your Mother and Glee, probably.

I am excited by the potential glut of new shows about spoiled rich kids.

I've never watched one full episode of Friends. I think I got halfway through episode 1 as it came free with some newspaper & that was it.

I don't believe you KK. It's pretty much unavoidable and has been for 15 years (?) You have seen one episode, maybe subconsciously, but you've defs seen one.

You'd have to be stuck on analog TV to not have seen one episode of Friends ever. I hate to say it too, but you are missing out. They're pretty good even if they are on all the time.

Schedule to be replaced with more Scrubs reruns and start to show plenty of HIMYMs and Big Bangs to fill the void.
