PostIf you could add one character to Super Smash Bros.

New challenger approaching! GNamer has joined GRcade's affiliates. To celebrate, and to drive cross-community interaction, this is one half of two Super Smash Bros. threads created, the other being "If you could add one stage to Super Smash Bros." over on GNamer. Jump over and say hello!

E3 saw the full reveal of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for Nintendo Switch, the latest entry in the fighting series that for the first time brings every playable character from the series together in a single game - along with some new faces too.

The question is, if you could add one new character to Super Smash Bros., who would it be and why? Feel free to give us a rundown of how they'd work and what moves they'd have.

And remember, you no longer need to worry about how big the character is - Ridley is already confirmed!

Leisure Suit Larry. Just to strawberry float up Nintendo’s wholesome image.

My pick: Slash from Snowboard Kids on the N64.

Image

Various moves take inspiration from the powerups in the game, while moving about the stage with jumps and dodges (using the snowboard of course) would earn coins that get spent boosting the power of these attacks. Neutral b is throwing a snowball, naturally. This spiky haired dude would mess Mario up.

Plus maybe we'd get a decent sequel rather than that ugly DS game

Judge Death.

Once he has "judged" someone, they are not just out of the game, but no longer a character Nintendo can use because they are dead. Probably need some way of randomly choosing characters otherwise whoever gets Judge Death wins and after he has killed all of the other characters he will need some other world to invade.

I've been hoping to see Simon Belmont from the Castlevania series turn up.

His normal attacks would naturally be using the whip or some of his sub-weapons with his special moves revolving heavily around his sub-weapons. I'm thinking his side special would be the Holy Water attack, leaving a little trail along the ground. His up-special could be Simon leaping upwards throwing a couple of axes as he does so, and his down-special could be him throwing a few crosses out. The sadist in me wants his down special to be a counter using the stopwatch, but I'd rather not see yet another counter move in Smash Bros.

Welcome to GRcade, GNamer folks!

I'd like to see Animal Crossing's Tortimer enter the battle!

Image

He looks, of course, like a pleasant gentleman but he could really kick butt! As a former mayor, he can throw super-strong red tape at rivals and get reams of numbers to fall on them. His special move is when he waves his stick in the air and shouts "Let me through!".

I'm sure you'll agree that Torts would be a mighty mountain in the world of Smash.

I'm surprised the player character from Minecraft hasn't been added in yet.

Dante (original/main canon) from the Devil May Cry series.

There are some other characters I'd like, such as Nero, and even moreso Travis Touchdown just for the potential lines he'd get - but I have a better idea of what Dante could be like since his moves are fresher in my mind.

Moveset:

His jab would unique. I don't believe other smash characters have too much variance in their jabs - I know with Falcon you can do an alternate combo with a different timing - so with his jab I'd let him do several of his staple combos from DMC3/4 with consecutive A presses of different times/pausing in between some presses. (Don't know too much about Bayonetta, but apparently she only as one additional jab combo).

Forward-tilt - easily would be his standard swordmaster attack, spins his sword in front of him. Multi-hits to end a damage-combo as opposed to a kill-combo.

Up-tilt would be high time, an sword uppercut that lifts opponents for combos. Like in DMC, holding it will make Dante go up with the enemy, making follow-ups easier.

Down-tilt - While for simplicity's sake I imagine most of Dante's moves being carried out by his sword Rebellion (but there'd be room for other weapons with Custom Moves), I'll throw in a reference to Beowulf for his d-tilt. Just a sliding kick, similar to Cloud.

Neutral-air - Aeriel Rave, sword slashes which suspend him in mid-air.

Forward-air - Helm-breaker, falls down forward with his sword (like the falling part of Ike and Cloud's Up-B)

Down-air - Spins around upside-down while firing his guns. From DMC2 which is a pretty bad game, but that move did look cool, and it'd be a somewhat unique down-air.

Up-air - Upwards spinning attack with Cerberus, the ice-nunchucks. A bit unsure about this one, but again, I think it'd look cool.

Back-air - Shoots his guns behind him, inspired by his Gunslinger style.

Dash-attack - Stinger, plunging forward with his sword, and if you mash A while you do it, it transitions to Million-hit stab, a multi-hit stabbing move.

His smash attacks I'm not too sure about. Maybe they'd be carried out by Sparda, from the original DMC. Those attacks extended out and packed more of a punch than any other weapon in that game.

Neutral B - gunshots. Side-B - Trickster, essentially teleport left or right, for recovering and general movement. Down-B - Devil trigger, makes you stronger for a while and is charged similarly to Cloud's limit I guess. Up-B - idk, some sort of sword leap.

Maybe give him a grapple recovery based off his DmC grapples as well. Small shoutout to that game.

Costumes: his popular young Dante look from DMC3 would be his main design, then I guess his costume from DMC since it's had a couple of appearances. Not sure. Palette swaps that reference the other games if there isn't enough development time/desire for proper models.

These are mostly of the top of my head and I'd easily change a lot of this with more thought, but yeah, you could do a lot with Dante.

I don't even play Smash that often but who cares, Banjo and Kazooie would be my pick.

He has wings, so obviously he's somewhat of an aerial fighter and of course his sword comes into play. Besides what lies on the surface, this guy is and may always be a mystery.
