I'd make my son aware that if he wants a career in something, he needs to work hard when he's at school and focus on one or two things, even if he has several interests. I was an indecisive kid and it's cost me several wasted years because it took me that long to figure out what I wanted to do having taken a spread of five A-levels, all of which were subjects which couldn't have been more different from the others.
(Maths, German, Art, English Lit, General Studies, for the record. Yeah, I know.)
I'm not fussed whether he goes to Uni or not - obviously if it's the sort of career which pretty much requires a degree I'll nudge him in that direction, but I don't care whether he's a binman or a rocket scientist as long as he's happy. I'd also suggest he marry into a rich family.
