As some of you may know my dear old mum (72) has terminal cancer. She's had it a while now, so I'm kinda getting used to the idea, as are the rest of my (rather large) family. She's coping reasonably well, given the circumstances, as she's a fairly strong-willed old bird and simply refuses to give in to it. Showbiz to the end, darlings.

Anyways, since it's the Bank Holiday weekend and all, I'm clearing out of the Capital tomorrow and heading down to the area of the country I come from: the Sunny Southwest (I actually come from Plymouth, in Devon, which is just across the Tamar River from Cornwall). I'll be staying with a very dear friend and his family - the guy I travelled across America and Canada with back in '88. I've known him 25 years and I was best man at his wedding.

I'll naturally be popping in to spend some time with my Mum (she's at home, rather than in a hospital) and seeing one of my many sisters and her family and generally just lounging about in the glorious, p*sstakingly attractive Cornish countryside. I just hope the goddam weather is good. So much for climate change, huh? Every year they promise us better, warmer temperatures, more sunshine, but it still hasn't arrived!

I'll still be able to log on to this joint, though, so expect to see me popping up to irritate and argue with you all weekend!

So, anyone else got some plans for the Bank Holiday break?

PS: I'm charging up my PSP for the trip. Time to get serious with Dungeon & Dragons: Tactics!

Involves missing Yeovil v Leeds though, which is several levels of rubbish.

This is the first I've known of it being a bank holiday. This is what happens when you're not in college.

Thanks. As for Cornish pasties - I'm gonna be having some of that! None of this prepackaged rubbish, either. The little village I'll be staying just outside of has a real Cornish bakery. One could get very self-indulgent there.

I'm working on the Monday (extra day off and time and a half? yes please!) but on Friday I'm driving down to Warwick sort of area to visit some friends and spending the weekend with them, plan is to do a few bits and pieces in and around Warwick/Birmingham - Warwick Castle, Birmingham Sea-Life Centre, Cinema etc.

I met them on holiday a few months ago and have visited most weeks and I can't wait to spend a few days with them :D

The Sea-Life Centre sounds good. I love Aquariums - Plymouth has a pretty good, quite internationally known aquarium and I really must make the effort to go there. I've been to the London Aquarium and it's just amazing. I think it all goes back to when I was a kid. I've never forgotten my first visit to an aquarium. Like stepping into another world... Went to a mind-blowingly good one in Baltimore years ago. Multi-level shark tanks FTW!

I have a chum visiting from Stockholm arriving tomorrow, so I will be having to entertain. I'll also be contemplating my future as I turn 26 on Saturday... BBQ for someone else's birthday on Sunday, Monday will likely be recovery...

London Aquarium sounds immense, I'd love to go! Aquariums and Zoos are something I loved as a kid and have started revisiting really, they're so much fun to go to and it really is like stepping into another world. Some of the ones abroad are particularly amazing, I went to Berlin Zoo last year and that has an aquarium as well and the whole thing was superb. I also went to a zoo in Madrid with areas where the animals would actually be free to run around you so you were in their habitat, I had spider monkeys jumping around me within touching distance - it was incredible! The Aquarium there was really good as well, Manatees swimming overhead eating lettuces and just generally looking really silly :D

Hull actually has a really good aquarium, its just a shame the rest of the place is completely horrible!
