I did not think my next game purchase would be God of War, but there you go!

This is me.

Me too. I've always found the GoW games to be a bit puerile. The action was always decent but I couldn't get past the teenage fantasy bit of it. The story is what interests me the most about this one.

I've watched my older Bro play through most of them. I found Kratos annoying and the combat never interested me. PSP games were technically impressive which I respect but still wasn't for me and when Ascension came out I was like just let this dude die already. But that first reveal of the new GoW at E3 blew me away. Never would have expected to care about Kratos but they did it.

Yakuza 6 is meant to be out on the 17th. I got my dispatch text confirmation yesterday from SimplyGames and that after only placing the order at around 9 AM. That day! Received the game today. (Via free 1st class post.) Mafro go his copy today as well.

I forgot about them - cheers!

Even the co-creator, who's the creative director of this one I think, has said Kratos was a dickhead from the start. A large part of this is him reckoning with his past which sounds fascinating.

After the reviews for this hit I remembered that I'd played the first PSP GoW all those years ago. Strangely enough I remember almost nothing about it, except it being graphically very impressive for the time.

I think that's fine for like 3 games but after a while it just becomes a tiresome trope about him. The way they are using his past self and developing the relationship with his Son is super interesting now. Speaking of Mr. Barlog tho, I have nothing but massive respect for the man for being able to pull this off.

The story sounds like it's taken genuinely interesting turn given the previous three instalments. Kratos could be a real arrogant, almost uncontrollable bellend a lot of the time, so it's exciting to see they're using his past to drive the narrative in this latest entry. Cannot wait to get my hands on it.

This seems to be God of War's Logan - a much more mature story at the end of a character's arc that needs the silliness that's gone before it to give it the weight and sense of consequence it needs. I wonder how playing through the previous games before going into this would feel.

I forgot to preorder from SimplyGames - now the price is £54.99. I'm sure it was 10 quid cheaper! So now it's either SimplyGames or ShopTo. Why doesn't Amazon have any stock?

Yup. Waypoint also compared it to the later Clint Eastwood films like Unforgiven: a man with a history of extreme violence coming to terms with his life.

As to your second point, I watched a potted history of the God of War games on Youtube and I don't think I've ever seen anything that's so very, very "2000's Video Game Culture In A Nutshell." Tits, shouting and gore. Urgh.

It does look bloody lovely. Even the base PS4 seems to be punching above its weight.

Remember playing GoW 3 and just stopped playing halfway through it as I honestly weren't keen on Kratos personality, may go back and actually complete it before this comes out.

Really looking forward to it and it's great to see the father/son relationship is done really well in the game, knew it was going to be a good game but I was took aback when I saw all those 10 scores. Great job Sony, as remember seeing an article saying Sony was actually done with the franchise and didn't want to make another one, great to see it paid off so well.

Pertaining to a previous post; all Sony games seem to be unavailable for preorder on Amazon, this is weird, perhaps they've had some sort of wholesale pricing spat??

Just pre-paid for a pre-order via shopto. But then had to cancel it as can't change the delivery address. Anyone ever had problems getting refunds from them as just realised they don't actually refund you the money unless you request it.

Unless you want to see how the story ends I would say skip it if you’re jumping into 4. Much like you, I found Kratos personality unbearble, bordering on character destroying as he was so unlikeable.
