I really, really do spend too much time on the Internet, and I've recently discovered why.

My favourite thing to do is listen to music - because it can accompany tons of activities. The Internet has got so much going on though, that I can be entertained for hours upon hours, with some background sounds and be entertained to my hearts content. It's not a good thing!

I can't even find it in me to go and read, or play video games because I totally switch off when I'm in front of the computer, and it's not good! The only thing I'd rather do is go for a cycle, or do some weights.

Looking at some of the post counts accumulated on here, I'd say there's a lot of you that feel the same. I feel so weak for it, but then again I do read up on articles of interest on Wikipedia, but will always end up back on a forum.

Is it just me that wants to get out of this habit? I feel like I could be doing so much more with my time :(.

I'm probably on the internet a bit too much, but not all day. There are other things to be doing.

I also like to, occasionally, practice the hobby that is the main reason i was on old GR.

D'you know what's weird. I was in a pub the other night with a bunch of, at best, 'acquantices' that I knew via my girlfriend who were talking about some local (which I was not) sport team. This was, apparently, sociable.

Well, genuinely, I'd prefer a bottle of red wine and an evening with you guys.

I'd never pass up going out, purely for staying on the Internet - I'm not some junkie! It's just that my time at home needs to be better spent.

I need to sink back into reading, and maybe get into drawing - a creative outlet might do me wonders!

Yes, I do feel that I spend a lot of time on here. I'm not going to say waste though, although there is a lot of things I could be going instead.

I spent far too much time on here, I know, but as Loire said it's all too easy to stay here and be entertained all day, especially if you're on a forum that's moderately interesting. :(

It is far too easy to sit on the net all day and do nothing productive at all. I keep thinking I should limit my net time per day but as soon as I try it I still end up doing nothing productive and being bored mostly. So I always end up coming back to the computer eventually.

I've thought about this on a whole load of levels. Basically I think it boils down to a need for contact with other people, and a natural curiosity for finding stuff out and reading into things. On the Internet, that's all available to you for free, from the comfort of your chair. I feel it can hinder sociality though so I try to make sure I get in touch with people at least every other day. For today at least, I've just been resting because I had a hectic gig last night that was organised and deorganised in some respects in about 12 hours, which is pretty mental.

As a creative person though it does nark me off when I think of what I could be doing if I wasn't on the net so much of my time, especially in term time when I have a lot of work to do in the evenings, so I'm trying to work out physical ways of preventing myself getting "stuck" on the Internet.

I've been thinking of getting an Asus EeePC and only using that in my uni's library, which closes at 8pm, effectively cutting off my net in the evening. But then I realised it's pretty damn likely I could leach someone's net from hall. I may just not have the Internet at uni and be forced to use PCs in the library for Internet stuff. It wouldn't really be a problem because even if I needed software updates I could just fit those on a memory stick.

I've literally spent all day smoking weed, drinking red wine and watching the Frasier weekend on Paramount Comedy 2. Suffice to say, I haven't been bothered about the Internet today - but some days I'll be up til 6am browsing forums.

Yup.. I think you'll find that a significant number of people ages 16-24 wouldn't claim to be particularly productive anyway.. especially not on the weekends. Never mind what they do.

I don't spend too much time on the internet. The only time I am on the internet is if I have nothing better to do. I would NEVER put a computer before socialising with my mates. Unless of course I was absolutely exhausted and just wanted to relax.

I spend the 'working day' on the internet, mainly to find a job. Evenings and weekends are for family and friends.

Well, I'm going to start and spend more time on here during work because I can now. I used to only be able to get to GR through proxies. I'll probably spend most time during my last week of placement when I won't care and won't have much work to do...

I spend near enough all my free time on here. First thing I do when I get home after a night out? Come on Gr.

Socialising is a priority for me, but I spend too much time on the internet when I could be doing all sorts of different things :(

I spend loads of time here, but theres not much else I can do. It's as good a way as any to spend my time at home.

I'm nowhere near as bad as I used to be back in the day. I'll admit to checking my email an unusual amount of times a day but this is more to do with work/artists emailing back than some kind of addiction. (At least that's what I tell myself)

I actually have stuff pinned up near my computer to stop me procrastinating. So far it works.

I had a giant sign saying "YOU NEED TO WORK. ALL SUMMER TO REST."

It didn't work, and I didn't finish my work.

But then it seeems I have/had clinical depression so I'm not surprised.

Mine's a bit more long winded and new-agey than that

I read a brilliant book called "War of Art" which is about procrastination when trying to produce creative work (or anything else of similar importance). It really gave me a kick in the arse productivity wise.
