Maybe where you live.

I live in strawberry floating Stockport, mate. Going to the pictures isn't as cheap as it used to be.

Even off-peak, with your SO that's more than £16. Point stands, either way: £16 is cheap for a game of this standard.

strawberry float her, she can pay for herself. Down with patriarchy.

I just wish we would stop having this dumb conversation every time an indie game dares to break the £12 barrier.

Ah, this old chestnut again. Good stuff.

I don't currently have a job, so I have to be careful with my purchases. IN MY OPINION £16 is too much money for four hours game. Is that OK?

Well, yes. Compared to:

£16 is a ludicrous ask for 4 hours of game.

Saying you're watching what you spend so you can't justify it is hugely different from suggesting PlayDead is being ridiculous by asking a perfectly reasonable amount of money for a game of exceptional craft.

So it's been fantastic so far, definitely would have finished it tonight if I didn't have to get tea ready. The music and art style are absolutely phenominal, can't wait to get back to this tomorrow. Can someone tell me how much longer if got left? I've just been dragged under water but the weird girl

Just a word of warning, it's similar enough to Limbo that if you didn't like that I doubt this will sway you.

The strawberry float was that.

I retract my previous position and I'm now going with "there's no way this is worth £16"

How surprising to hear you say that of an Xbox exclusive.

I'm about half way through I think, and it's pretty enjoyable so far, its definitely more Limbo. I don't see why it's getting 10/10 GOTY all years though, so I'll wait and see. Every review says that you won't guess the ending, and I have a prediction:

It turns out the kid was being controlled by someone else in one of those helmet things all along, a commentary on how game characters are controlled by players etc.

That's coming out on all platforms, they said so at E3.

I must be different from others but I didn't entirely get on with Limbo, I didnt hate it but I never felt the need to finish it, I put it on the back burner (that may now change).

This on the other hand, I love, maybe it's because of the colour (which is used sparingly), maybe it's the dystopian setting, I can't put my finger on what it is exactly but all together it's stunning. Melancholy mixed with fear and a sometimes over bearing sense of oppression. The Animation is also lovely, reminds me of Ico in that regard.

In regards of exclusivity, I think Limbo had exactly a 1 year exclusive deal.

I've bought this. Unfortunately I was way too tired to play it last night, so will try to avoid spoilers and start tonight.

It's less fiddly in its later stages than Limbo was. That could be a little frustrating in places, whereas this never feels unfair.

My thoughts from the other thread:

This is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played. The art direction and animation is impeccable, and the image quality flawless. From the moment it gets going to the moment it comes to a rest, it's doesn't let up in providing incredible, haunting visuals with every single frame. Gameplay, outside of the hard right turn at the end, is pretty much Limbo again. You work your way through much-too-easy platforming and puzzling segments and make some close escapes from pursuing nasties. Those chases in particular are tense and exhilarating, and probably my favourite parts of the game, though no doubt the focus will be on the last 20 minutes for most people. As for that ending, while surprising, liberating and fun, it brought a failing of the game to the fore. It will, multiple times in its super-short runtime, make you care about something then toss it aside because it came up with something else. Too often I found myself in a situation wondering how on earth it came to this. How far removed the boy's current predicament is from what it was before. It teased at my curiosity and made me play on for a resolution that never came, and when it was all over, I was left questioning if there was ever any substance there at all. It feels like it was just providing striking imagery and nothing more. It's a playable bad dream and I think everyone should play it. But I also feel like it's way overpriced, so you might want to wait for a sale.

There are no spoilers unless you count saying whether there is a twist or not a spoiler.

Just finished, that was bloody great. Undoubtedly better than Limbo but also slightly underwhelming because it's so similar.

Just finished it, and I have to say I'm torn:

On the one hand it has fantastic visual direction, they really nail gloomy interiors and the sense of monolithic dead structures, reminds me of some of Zdzisław Beksiński's paintings in some ways. On the other, it is still as ambiguous as Limbo; which in this case is not a negative quality as the game doesn't pad for time or waste space. What feels like padding turns out to be puzzle mechanic practice for later on. As for the story, man. I was not expecting it to go full Akira towards the end, but with a lot of what you see and experience, there slightly too little context or explanation to keep me absolutely hooked throughout. What was the deal with the Sadako-like underwater people? Why did the Gorge of Loud Death Noises exist, and to what purpose/end? I'm glad it exists and that people are prepared to push the boundaries of game-making beyond the AAA mainstream. There are some moments that genuinely blew my mind - the bit with the upside down water full of bodies floating the wrong way, for example, and other moments of visual spectacle, however I don't get the 10/10 scores its been getting everywhere. Also there is a secret "ending" if you find all the hidden orbs then do some bullshit with a bunker in the cornfield at the start, however doing all of that is many times longer than the 'ending' itself. Go look it up on youtube instead (and its almost exactly how I called it in this thread a few days ago).
