The Tate Modern has a nice bar up quite high in the building with seats next to the window. Great view.

The one attached to the National Theatre is pretty nice. Cross over to Embankment and Gordon's Wine Bar is excellent, usually very busy though

If it's a nice day, I think I saw a Heineken bar near the National Theatre that was outside.

Do you mean by the national theatre area opposite charing cross? Not much there that I can think of. Good food market but that's it by the river. Just chain restaurants. Certainly not a quiet area.

That isn't classed as Southbank though. Borough Market does have a good bar though but it's pretty far from Southbank.

If he literally means all along south embankment then The Anchor is nice. It used to be anyway, not been there in years. It's the Samuel Pypes pub looking across at St Pauls. Nice on a hot day but not quiet.

I would class South Bank as the strip by the river between Waterloo and London Bridge, so Borough Market isn't that far at all.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Anywhere on the strip between Waterloo and London Bridge would hit the spot.

That's in Southwark. Southbank and Southbank Centre are about a mile or so from London Bridge. Not a huge distance sure, but he can't be in the two places at the same time ;) .

If you are in Borough Market area The Sheaf is good. I went there years ago when most places just sold gooseberry fool beer and was charged £3.50 or something for half a pint of banana bread beer :slol: Should be relatively normal London prices these days.
