It's so annoying! :x

I think it was fine when I moved in but for the past week it's been ridiculously slow. My provider is BT, at first I thought it was them performing maintenance or something as I'd just got connected but it's gotten no better over a week. I've reset my router and stuff but does anyone know why it might be slow and how to fix it? Will ringing BT help at all as their website is useless?

It's not a DATs(?)/shared line you're on is it? Failing that I'd say your proximity to the router or it being a peak time when you're trying to browse.

Ringing BT could help. Although I'd suggest switching ISP's as my experiences with BT in the past has been rather bad.

You haven't downloaded crazy amounts of stuff have you Tragic? My friend recently had his connection limited after downloading 40gig in a couple of days.

Is it slow speeds all day, or just at peak times? If it's the latter, then it's probably down to BT traffic shaping.

I was in an almost exactly the same position earlier this week (during MM actually), but with Pipex not BT. I moved house, all was great until last Sunday when things were slower than the old dial-up days. I'm not bad with Wireless/network shenanigans but got no joy after fiddling a bit. So rang Pipex and the Indian dude on the other end told me he was to test the line, which he did and then told me it was set up wrong and all should now be fine. He also bumped up the speed to the max, was getting 4mb and now getting 8mb.

Within seconds, things were better than normal. My download speeds are better than ever - The crackdown 2 demo took about 20 mins to download which is unheard of for me.

So in short, ring BT up. :)

Nope, and it'd take me a year to download 40gb right now. :(

All day.

I rang and they were no help at all. Said it was normal for my area. But I refuse to believe that moving 2 miles down the road from my previous house would effect a connection this badly. My xbox has even started disconnecting from Live randomly and won't connect again til I turn it off. And it's going to take an estimated 10 hours to download a 500mb game update.

There's no way in hell this is "normal for my area". Definitely cancelling BT and going elsewhere if it doesn't sort itself out before my free 3 months are up. strawberry floating bullshit.

Can't think of a reason why it wouldn't

Sounds like typical BT wankery.

See if you can get Virgin or some other ISP.

And this morning my internet is much better. Still not perfect but compared to the previous week my download speeds are lightning fast. Hope it stays like this, stupid BT.
