Most winning pics of these comps look fake af these days anyways, genuine pics rarely ever seem to get a look in.

...wait, what? Did you read the article? Why is he a dickhead? It sounds like you agree with him -- he submitted the piece but refused the award as a kind of protest because he thinks image synth shouldn't be conflated with traditional photography.

The thing is, while ai generated images are indeed easy to create in general, getting the exact image you want can take quite a lot of time and repeated attempts before the AI spews out something visually pleasing.
There's no artistic skill needed per se but rather the skill is in expressing to a unaware and uncaring 'entity' exactly what it is that you wish to see.

Yeah, one has to respect Stugene's time and effort in describing that "ballsack in tight shorts" scene in such detail

Preserved for all eternity.
Honestly, i'm thankful it's not available as an NFT.

You really need to understand composition and certain points of how the model actually interprets what you input. Theres a lot more to generating a "realistic" or believable piece of AI art than just plonking in a simple prompt. And to be honest, that AI image that won that award looks awful and is quite obviously generated

I've been looking on here for inspiration for prompts and it's dramatic improved the quality of results

If it makes you feel any better, I think art is about expressing yourself, and I think good art is about expressing yourself in an interesting way. I think image synthesis can be a super cool tool and/or medium for artists, but I don't think the development of a new artistic frontier makes your art any less brilliant. In the same way that MIDI keyboards didn't destroy the orchestra, I think people will always want to connect to your paintings and appreciate the techniques you have mastered, and even more importantly, I think that your artistic process will always be meaningful to you no matter what anyone else does.

This.
Art is for everyone, regardless of how or why you create/generate it.
I'm finding the process of entering, altering and reiterating the prompts to fine tune the output quite a relaxing and interesting experience.

I think if you've never tried to use AI generation, and you can, then you should - at least to put to bed these ideas that AI is giong to somehow replace the creation of art. Because it is just creating another kind of art - and it requires a deep understanding of art and the process to actually make good gooseberry fool. It is entirely comparable to the MIDI analogy of site's - you still need some artistic flair to make anything of note.
It doesn't matter if the piano is stolen, or it's another composers sheet music, if you can't actually play the piano to begin with its not going to be anywhere near as good as someone with a basic understanding.
I can see AI art being of interest in its own regard - much like how people came to appreciate electronic music more when it stopped trying to ape acoustic stuff - but it's not going to replace human created art. It can make some impressive stuff, but it's only as innovative as it's souce material - and can only make what the user enters.

More incoming, yes they're all anime but I've experimented with different art styles this time.
