Contingent on the full campaign being on the cart, my biting point is £20. Yes I really want to play it but it's a no-frills port of a game from 2010 and and therefore does not warrant a high price point. If I'd sampled the original version my biting point would probably be £10.

Launch day!

Are any GRcadians picking this up; on either Switch or PS4? Looking online it seems that it won't be available to purchase from the digital stores until 10am.

Pinched this from resetera:

Probably not representative, but from those videos, these are the load times from main menu into the game.

Switch: 9 seconds
PS5: 27 seconds
PS4: 34 seconds

It really does feel like the switch version is the real one, and the ps versions are just brute forced ones.

Waiting for Digital Foundry to get hold of it. Things like 'ooooh, more trees' don't bother me, but there's no excuse for this title to be worse than on Xbox 360/Series X.

Yee-haw! Mockmaster got all wicki-wild-west! Unfortunately, Pedz and OrangeRkn have been run outta town and we can't update the logo right now. Maybe someone else could ride shotgun?

I'll be checking this out on Yuzu tonight. We're at a point where, if RDR runs well through emulation, then the Switch version might be the best bet for PC players wanting to give it a shot, since it appears we are never getting a proper PC port at this point.

Digital Foundry have looked at the PS4 version and, as we'd expected, it's a pretty bare-bones port. It runs at 30 FPS and has some very slight graphical improvements over running the original version on an Xbox Series system, but it seems that minimal effort has been put into it; rather disappointing for a forty quid price tag.

Hopefully the Switch version will fare a little better!

Why are Rockstar such shitheads with ports? Aren't they absolutely loaded thanks to GTA Online?

Sharper Shadows on PS5, cleaner image due to FSR vs Series X running 360 code. Both Native 4K.

Oddly, all the cut scenes have constant stuttering on PS machines, not evident on Xbox.

You don't stay loaded by spending money on ports of games with no microtransactions.

Xbox owners missing out on nothing, then.

It's disappointing, but at least those who've only experienced the PS3 version get a moderate upgrade if they fancy playing it again (plus it's another one to tick off the 'locked to PS3' list which is never a bad thing).

If you still own a PS3, you can pick up the bog standard edition for about £6, or GOTY edition for £15. Are the improvements on PS4 worth an extra £25 to you? I've noticed if you're a PlayStation Plus subscriber, they're bundling RDR 1 and 2 together for £56.94. Though RDR2: Ultimate Edition is currently £26.99, so you're actually better off buying the Ultimate Edition separately and waiting for the price to drop on RDR. Meanwhile the PS4 disc copy is already available for £27.47 at Amazon UK.

Publishers are just taking advantage of PS3's awkward architecture, basically. And with the majority of the good stuff increasingly available off the PS3, the odds of Sony pissing about trying to emulate the machine at any point in the future must be zero.

I don't feel like you need to spend a huge amount of money to do something better that would sell better though. Can even outsource it, plenty of devs who specialise in this kinda thing. Maybe I'm wrong.

What we want: PS3 Classics HD Collection (ignoring those piss-takers over at Ubisoft)

What we get:

Watched a bit of the Switch version and it looks as expected? It’s a port of the 360 game that doesn’t look as nice as the Series X version, although from the small amount I watched it doesn’t look bad at all.

Just watched that myself and yeah, it's a good port (technically speaking) of the original game, that looks ever so slightly nicer due to a higher resolution its running at. That review makes a very good point about perceived value between this and the MGS collection, for £10 more you're getting a lot more value from that collection than this one re-release in my opinion even though the actual time you're playing the games could be similar by the end (as a chunk of MGS 2 and 3 are cutscenes, not on the level of MGS 4 though  ) of playing each.

Still one to put as a maybe in the future if it is indeed all on the cartridge (which it is looking like it is), maybe wait till you can pick up a physical version for nearer £25 than £35 as well.

Like Ad said, this feels more for Switch than PS4/5, makes sense seeing as Nintendo are also handling the physical release publishing, might have been a game they pushed Rockstar for perhaps? Red Dead 2 on Switch 2 for launch maybe?

16gb is asking a bit much :slol:

You would imagine Switch 2 cart sizes should be bigger right :shifty:

I wish they would be, but doubt they will be.
