KK wrote:The fact this isn’t on Xbox is likely very telling. Probably hardly any difference running the 360 version on an Xbox Series X and this new one on a PS4 Pro/PS5. Looking at eBay, will still set you back about £15-£20 though.

On the Xbox store, the game plus all the paid add ons will be around £33, guess the edition being rereleased on the PS4 and Switch has all the paid and free add ons in one package. Only way I'd be tempted by this on the Switch is if they put it on a 16GB cart so it's all on cart except for the odd patch.

It’ll be interesting if Double Eleven can better the old Xbox back compat team.

I mean, I'll be getting the Switch version. Not straight away, because I have things to pay for this month, but I'll be getting it

Handheld Red Dead Redemption is a great thing to have, I’m looking forward to it, it’ll have to wait though probably until early next year as October for me is Spidey 2, Batman Trilogy and Super Mario Wonder.

As I’m currently playing it on PS3, I’m also surprised they’ve not done GTA IV yet. It’s actually completely fine on PS3 through a 1080p TV (though flying a helicopter with the motion controls turned on is…terrible), but I think the framerate is doubled on Xbox Series X.

There does seem to have been a concerted effort by developers, particularly Sony, to make the best PS3 games available on PS4/PS5. Well, I say effort, it’s clearly very easy money. It’s a cash grab, but the more titles you can get off the PS3 (with improvements) the better as backwards compatibility isn’t happening any time soon (likely never).

AFAIK Rockstar put a small patch in GTA IV on Xbox to unlock the framerate meaning Series X runs it at 60, FPS boost isn't used.

Rockstar could let Xbox run RDR & RDR2 using FPS boost but won't. :x

This seems absolutely pathetic. Agree with KK surprised they’ve never just done GTA 4 either..

For Switch this could be fun, but the price and the price for a PS4 release with no changes is pure greed

GTAIV somehow got a really good critical reception and charts highly on metacritic all-time and the like, if they rerelease it that would be ruined because it's actually a bad game

Well I’m throughly enjoying it (again).

Shooting isn’t up to the same standard as today’s games, but once you nail the ‘lock on, flick up, headshot’ routine it’s not too bad.

I’m sure the lack of checkpointing will be horrible on later missions though.

Full blurb:

Experience the epic Western adventure Red Dead Redemption and its groundbreaking zombie-horror companion, Undead Nightmare, as both games come to the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 for the very first time in a single package. In a new conversion by Double Eleven Studios, the Switch and PS4 versions bring the two classic experiences together again for both new players and original fans to enjoy across modern consoles, including backwards compatibility with the PlayStation 5.

One of the most critically acclaimed games of all time with over 170 Game of the Year Awards, Red Dead Redemption tells the story of former outlaw John Marston as he journeys across the sprawling expanses of the American West and Mexico to track down the last remaining members of the notorious Van der Linde Gang in a bid to save his family. Relive, or experience for the first time, the events immediately following the epic tale of honor and loyalty in the 2018 blockbuster Red Dead Redemption 2 as Marston hunts down his former friends and outlaws Bill Williamson, Javier Escuella, and his former gang leader, Dutch van der Linde as the era of the cowboy comes to its end.

Red Dead Redemption on Nintendo Switch and PS4 also includes Undead Nightmare, the hallowed story expansion that reimagines the world of Red Dead Redemption as Marston fights to survive a relentless zombie horde and searches for a cure in a spooky, supernatural twist on the Western genre.

In addition to both classic, single-player experiences, newly supported languages include, for the first time, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Korean, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Latin American Spanish.

Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare will be $49.99 on the Nintendo Switch eShop and PlayStation Store, with physical releases arriving October 13. Add Red Dead Redemption to your wish list now on the Nintendo eShop and PlayStation Store to receive a notification when it becomes available.

Red Dead Redemption features the single-player experiences from Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare, plus bonus content from the Game Of The Year Edition and more. RDR does not feature multiplayer content.

- PlayStation 4 Pro enhanced
- Offline Play enabled
- DualShock 4 vibration
- Remote Play supported

4K at 30fps seems most likely, as do any PS4 Pro games support 4K at 60?

As much of a rip-off as this is, people will lap it up. The masses don't care and will happily spend £40 on this (seems a bit odd that the US price is $30, which seems a bit more reasonable).

Stuff like this will only happen more frequently in the future. With the push towards digital-only, people won't have the option to keep hold of their games like they can with physical media. The old/cheap version of a game will get removed, and/or access to people's existing copies, and people will be expected to buy it again at full-price or near full-price after some minor tweaks or just a straight re-release.

I’d like to replay this on Switch but £40 for essentially the same game is a tad steep, I’ll wait for a CEX price reduction.

Lotus! You're bang on! I think it's an old and un-cool saying now, but... you're dropping truth bombs here!
