Are Britain (and Ireland) like, totally turning into America?

Fed up talking videogames? Why?

A few recent things I've noticed, sure it's nothing new, we've always been exposed to American culture, but it seems to becoming more and more so with each passing year.

Latest trend, the High School prom. We had nothing like this when I left school, last Friday night I couldn't move for limousines in my town.

So long as everyone I know laments US politics and education, along with hating just about everyone else, no, we're still England Britain.

Not a chance.
The UK is way, way more liberal than the US and the US viewpoint on healthcare and education would be just completely unacceptable here.
Even our most hardcore conservatives are filthy liberal scum compared to US politics and I feel we're nowhere near as cynical about our news TV as it's not allowed to be as brazenly partisan as in the US.
While a lot of UK voters are just as uninformed as US voters they don't have entire TV channels dedicated to making gooseberry fool up and claiming liberalism is a mental illness as Fox News does on a regular basis.

My local pub, the Plough Inn closed last year, it's now a Papa John's

The land next to it is now a retail park complete with TGI Fridays, Burger King and drive-thru coffee

Not turning into no. We always take on parts of their culture as we are so exposed to it but it tends to come with a British twist.

But The Prom is the most important day of your entire life how could you miss it :capnscotty: .

Next you'll be telling me you didn't do anything for your crucial 16th birthday when it's completely acceptable to shoot your parents for not buying you a new top of the range Mercedes E class as you wouldn't want to look like a poor person would you?

Remember when schools had a headmaster/headmistress? Now it's "principal"

Always thought my nephews were just making this up when they talked about their day at school.

Ive noticed the increase in the use of principal over the past decade from working with schools. It seems to either get introduced when a school is completely rebuilt or it becomes an academy as they want a clean slate and seem to think that renaming all the functions of school staff will make everything better.

It reminded me of the time the bloke next door decided to do some tiling at 3am, complete with the regular 'tap tap tap' on the wall as each one was put into place.
