My terminology might be wrong, but from what I understand, when you're browsing the internet, all sorts of bollocks gets saved onto your HDD (images, small text files, etc).

Clearing internet history and other browsing history presumably deletes some of this, but is there other stuff that's getting saved that can't be deleted that easily? Lots of images and such that takes up space on the disk?

If so, my question is, is there a way to stop that being saved in the first place? Is it possible to browse without anything being saved?

I would assume there is a maximum cache size that works on a first in, first out basis. If you could stop the caching, your overall internet experience would be slower.

Yes?

I thought using the 'private browsing' feature was supposed to delete everything that's cached when it's closed?

Ctrl+Shift+P / cmd+Shift+P to start porn mode in Firefox, nothing gets saved.

You could try setting your cache size to 0, but that might make browsing the net a bit painful and it would probably allocate at least some disk space anyway or have a minimum amount.

The images etc you are talking about are including the cache.

In theory you could use data recovery software to bring back the cache. Also most browsers are bad about deleting cookies and other files created by plugins such as Flash.

A better solution would be to create a RAM disk and install Firefox (private portable edition) on it.

Thanks for the responses guys, was pretty much what I thought, but good to have it confirmed.
