PostIs it worth buying a Sony Walkman MP3 player? SOLVED
by No:1 Final Fantasy Fan » Sun Dec 11, 2011 2:12 am

I was thinking of buying some Vinyl versions of my favourite albums that I already have on CD because I heard they sound different.
The cheaper LP player i found online is at amazon from hughes direct for £63
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ion-Profile-LP- ... 398&sr=8-3

I also saw one advertised for £30 at Aldi

anyway is it worth it?

Doesnt a vinyl to pc conversion kind of defeat the point of 'the vinyl sound'?

No, but I have this as reason not to : viewtopic.php?f=7&t=28065

Also - I can't imagine you will get superior sound quality from a record player that is on special offer at Aldi, or one designed to make electronic copies of vinyl via USB to a PC. By "sound different" you mean "sound gooseberry fool" then, yes, by all means buy one. If you really want to blow your money pointlessly on something that actually is worth it, then you will need to look upwards of 200 quid.

Short answer: no.

Long answer: well, kinda. Records can sound very different to CDs and MP3s, but only if the artist/record label puts the effort into mastering them properly, AND if you're prepared to spend some serious money on a sound system. My set-up cost me about £400 and, to be fair, is average at best. It's still a lot better than playing an album through shite laptop speakers, but it's not as brilliant as it could be.

But you really, really don't want to buy an all-in-one record player. They're cheap, they sound terrible, and worst of all they tend to ruin the records themselves.

In your case, there's little to no reason for you to get a record player, especially with your ridiculous spending history. Save the money and get CDs instead.

Thanks I guess I will just stay with my CDs then :D
As £63 would not equal a quality LP player, might as well use my CDs on my Aego speakers instead

LP to digital converters are literally the most pointless thing in the world.

Unless you want to spend a few hundred on a good system just listen to CDs.

Thanks again for the sensible advice.

I am now deciding if to buy a Sony Walkman z series instead to improve the sound quality of my MP3s and say goodbye to my ipod.

LOL
But that new Sony walkman does look awesome though. I think it will become very popular especially with android lovers. Also I have been thinking about getting a Sony walkman for some time since the sound is evidently better on their MP3 players compared to ipods. They even have built in amplifiers and this new one has noise cancelling built it. Usually noise cancelling is built into headphones but its interesting that Sony are putting it into their music player.

It just came out in Japan this month and costs 30,800 YEN thats about £250 for the 32GB version which is plenty for me. Theres also the 16GB version.

Are you sure? According to my searches on google Sony Walkmans do have great sound quality. So does stuff like iRiver, Sansas etc compared to ipods.

Apparently music sounds flat and boring on ipods compared to a sony walkman.
I agree about the quality of the files and the headphones must stand first. But the player also makes a good difference.

I am just bored of ipods etc now though so getting an Android Sony Walkman media player sounds good.

heres a review of it

Sounds like shite to me.

The only difference I noticed on the Sony I had compared to a cheap mp3 was the fact that it had a user defined EQ.
