Ok, I know, it's flawed, incomplete and missing features, but when you look at how it makes use of all your smartphone features it's really quite impressive.

Camera - check
Touch screen - check
GPS - check
Maps - check
Online centric - check
Walking and communicating - check
Based on a 90s gaming franchise - check (ok, not important, but I love nostalgia)

This just seems like the mind of game that smartphones were made for, and after years of mobile gaming being dominated by the likes o Candy Crush and Clash of Clans I thoroughly welcome it.

It is a definite good move to be something new. It has mass appeal and doesn't need any real skill to play.

It is a great format for mobile it really is.

I've always felt bitter/sweet about the popularity of mobile gaming. While I was glad that more people were gaming, I was always saddened by the fact that these games had no link to the games I love and grew up with.

Hopefully this will act as a good sign to Nintendo to make more mobile stuff.

How many of their other franchises would work this well on mobile though?

Why would that be better on mobilethan any other platform though? The genius of Pokemon Go is that it makes full us of smartphone features and wouldn't be playable on any other kind of device.

Far from it, there really isn't much to do.

Pokemon Go, and the success of it, has pretty much killed any chance of a proper Pokémon game on mobile devices, I worry. They'll sick with Go on mobile, exclusively.

Which is a shame, because I'd love a proper mobile version of Pokémon, as I can't be bothered to buy a DS.

Doesn't need to be better on phone it just needs to be fun and playable. What would be good is on the games linked so say you play on the phone a phone based game and the score or items help your on console game in some way.

I'm sick to death of hearing about it. It's ridiculously popular.

Or they might use the name recognition to launch a series of Pokemon mobile games, some like Go, others more like tradition PKMN games, along with mobile trading cards and the like.

Proper, mainline Pokemon games are literally the biggest system seller worldwide surely? It would take the dedicated handheld market to completely die a death before they put them on phones.

The whole point of the Nintendo apps is to sell the dedicated system.

And no I don't want to sit and play buggy proper versions of games on a touch screen and eradicate my battery while being constantly distracted by notifications. That's not what escapism is.

Nintendo may however be developing hardware controllers for mobiles according to parents.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

Exactly what Gecko said. Nintendo have said from the start that they want to use smartphones to help push people to their dedicated hardware. So while I doubt we'll ever see any 'proper' game on mobile I do think they will make them able to link them up somehow. Let people take the Pokemon they've invested time, and even real money, in catching and let them bring them over to either Sun and Moon or an NX Pokemon stadium style game.

To me this is the most important feature, it wouldnt work without the Pokemon license, Ingress kinda proves that. I dont know about it being the perfect mobile game but it does make excellent use of all the features and certainly couldnt exist without smartphones, but without Pikachu and co this would be another novelty ignored by the mainstream.

I can't see it having much longevity. People are mainly talking about catching new Pokemon, and not actually doing much beyond that.

I wonder if Pokemon Go will connect with Sun/Moon in some way?

Haven't been able to play it yet due to the servers having a meltdown.
