You can also ask PC World if you can try out the laptop you're interested in in-store - just go to your CMS ACP and play about for 10 mins, make sure it's responsive enough for you. If it is (and it should be!) then go for it.

Is it worth me using some free software to tackle the malware if there is any? malwarebytes.org does a download.

It is probably past that point but re-installing Windows 7 (I assume that is what is on it) from a DVD or USB Drive isn't hard and would mean the laptop is clean. Might be worth speaking to a local computer shop if you cant do it to see what it will cost for them to do it or see if a mate can do it for you.

I did a clean-up and a defrag last week and there's a noticeable improvement since. Just doing the free malware check now. The problem, specifically, is that after a few hours' internet browsing I retrieve notifications that the plug-in has stopped working or something.

But do you think this will solve the plug-in problem? I get warnings about some "plug-in" not working properly when I've been browsing for some time.

Don't know probably not. That will be issue with a plug in but that doesn't help as we dont know what one.

Odds are if the machine was that infected with crap it is also buggered beyond belief so could do with a fresh OS install.

Sorry but no, this has been going on too long with your issues and stuff that it would be nightmare walking your though the windows install, then driver stuff and everything else.

Go to a local computer shop and see how much for them to do it.

My brother is sending up Windows 8. I may have offered one of you lot a tenner to put Justified on disc for me, but I wouldn't ask for an expensive piece of software. I just use this place for information and you're all very helpful.
