I like the look of the game Fortnite but the description of the pre-order bonuses really concerns me.
The base game is £33 which is fine but then we have a deluxe edition with a 10x xp bonus (it doesn't say if this is time limited and if it isn't it's stupid) at £50 and then a Super Deluxe version with 20x at £74 and finally a Limited edition founders pack with 40x boost at £120.

That means I could simply pay £120 and get as much xp as someone with the base game can get in a whole week in just 2 or 3 games.

I was excited for this but this has pretty much killed it for me as that sort of XP earning discrepancy is just bloody stupid but is this just the way things are now? I know the point of the game isn't just to level up but getting new skills is a huge part of it and having to grind 40 times longer just because other people decided to pay a bit more is crazy to me.

Its not so much 'pay to win' as its 'pay to spend less of your life grinding in a system we made and are desperate to fight past your scruples into your wallet before closing the game in 18 months, thanking the community for their dedication and support etc'

I don't mind games that have double xp events but 40x xp for what seems the life of the game just seems excessive.

I am very interested in this game and you have just dampened that severely.

This is laughable if it is as it seems

Competitive online games like this are something I have little interest or experience in, so this could well be the norm, but to me this does just seem like 'pay to win' to me. If you have more money then you will be at a fundamental advantage in comparison to someone who only bought the base game.

I thought this was largely co-op but its still pretty scummy.

It's something I'd half expect (but still hate) if the base game was free. As it's not, it's doubly awful.

I dislike even double-XP weekends.

Anybody been tempted into Fortnite? There seems to be no buzz about it, but it has very positive ratings on the store page.

I've been keeping an eye on it but I'm going to wait for more impressions to come through as I'm slightly worried it's one of those games that would grow old fast.

I know I may be on my own here but the concept of being able to build a base and fill it with traps, guardians and turrets is great I just dislike the idea of time limits being thrown in. For me the whole point of a construction game is being able to plan and then change on the fly as you update the plan during construction as new ideas surface.

Being able to plan a base that can make best use of different character skills could be amazing but I realise I may be alone here and such slow pace may not be what sells.

You are not alone, Peter - so many games seem determined to decrease enjoyment through applying time limits. I like to chill out and take things at my own (albeit slow) pace!
