Is Xbox Arcade failing to deliver on its potential?

Anything to do with games at all.

Totally unrelated, but do you get a big improvement from L4D if you install it? The loading on that seems very s l o w.

Not really, I noticed that its slightly faster loading up the main menu but as I only ever play with my mates [who haven't got it on the HDD] I don't notice any difference as I think the game has to synchronize the start with everyone.

The Orange box install cuts load times by half though, well worth it if you have it.

Not the case. We were playing it system link and the game started noticably quicker on the "lead" Xbox. Neither had it installed, but the host was a newer model.

But yeah, there's almost no loading-time advantage to having it installed in any case.

I don't have endless hours to play games like most people on here do, so what's the problem? No way I'm going to pay for something I rarely use, I'd rather spend that on more games. That I never get to play.

I think the point here is that Left 4 Dead was built for online multiplayer and you're seriously missing out on the meat of the game without it.

I really don't think you should have bought the game if you wheren't going to play it online. To be quite frank, I think you're missing the point of the game entirely. :|

Someone posted that if you get your disc game early you can't play it until release day and it gets validated,is that true?

That's right, if you buy the disc version of a steamworks game it won't let you play until the official release. BFD.

Though TOB was unlocked a few days before the proper release date. And we were able to play TF2 from whenever we preordered.

You can still play local co-op though.

This comprimises the game graphically somewhat, the pop in and draw distance are awful.

I've not seen any problems. But then I don't complain at every little issue with games. I have a free 1 month subscription to Live which I was going to use to try this game but I need to save it for a time when I'll have plenty of time (i.e. never :( ).

If anything online multiplayer is perfect for people who don't have as much time as they'd like to play games. Fifa, motorstorm 2, halo, cod4 and gears are perfect if you've only got half an hour to spare.

Left 4 Dead is even more ideal. You can batter through a campaign in under an hour if you're on the ball.

I prefer to play the single player story type games. I find a quick battle or race too limiting. If I only have half an hour to spend, I won't use it for a quick game.

Probably one of the best features X360 has , but I still think it could be 10 times better with a little extra effort.

Ah, then you and I are two very different kind of gaming beasts.
